When the Convergence merged different alternate Earths together into one Primary Earth, it also merged together the different realms of the dead as well. Hela's Niflheim, Dormammu's Dark Dimension and Mephisto's Realm also known as the Netherworld all came together to form the Dark Domain, with each of three Hell Lords vying over complete control over this new realm. Unlike the physical convergence of the Primary Earth that merely put the fragments of various Earths into the same physical space, in the Dark Domain the different regions were not just made adjacent to one another, but had their fundamental energies entangled as well. The rules of the afterlife became murkier and some souls bound for one afterlife, such as Valhalla or Elysian Fields, were fining themselves in another, Netherworld being the worst of all.[1]
