Microchip was discharged from the Air Force when both his legs were torn off by Doctor Octopus. This left him with a hate of superpowered people regardless of whether they were heroes or villains. Kesserling offered him the chance to get revenge on superpowered individuals by setting him up as an assistant for Frank Castle.
