Mystery Tales #21
A man learns that the 13th floor of an office building is...death. He has a weak heart but his wife is sickly and he begs to be sent back in order to care for her. Death tells him that this is most irregular and that they went to a lot of trouble to bring him to the 13th floor this evening, but if he insists on going back, he must accept another 30 years of life. The man gratefully agrees and gets back into the elevator to leave the 13th floor. When he exits, he sees his ill wife getting into the neighboring elevator and riding it up to the 13th floor. He realizes his wife was destined to die this evening and that Death was trying to keep them together. Since he insisted on living, he must spend 30 years without his wife.

Synopsis for "The Gargoyle from the Fifth Galaxy!"
World of Fantasy #19
Cold War-era radar installations pick up the approach of a spaceship entering Earth’s atmosphere, which eventually comes to a landing in Washington, D.C. There, a fierce-looking humanoid creature that breathes flame disembarks, the surrounding military quickly firing upon him in fear. Their bombardment of bullets and shells do not affect the alien, who nevertheless returns to its ship and returns to outer space, apparently scared away by human resilience. A book it had left behind, however, reveals it was an ambassador of a utopian civilization hoping to share its cornucopia of science, medicine, and social programs with the universe’s less-advanced races, including Earth. Realizing their blunder, Earth’s own representatives at the United Nations can only hope that someday the alien will return to give humanity a second chance, at which point, the human race will be worthy of its generosity.
