A mobster gets on a bus during a rainy night that has no other riders in order to track down one of his former boys who took it on the lam. Suddenly a strange old man appears beside him and offers to tell him a story. He foretells the mobster's death at the hand of the younger man as they struggle for the mobster's gun, but the criminal does not heed the prophecy and gets off the bus to meet with his appointed destiny.

A scientist, who is bitter at having his ideas rejected, succeeds in developing a corrosive that melts automobiles. He plans to extort money for the counter agent, but has a change of heart when a dollar bill touches the corrosive and burns, thinking that it may be a sign of what could happen if a dictator gets control of his formula. He destroys the formula and resolves to work for the benefit of mankind.

Emory finds a token in the street that's a fifteen year old sales gimmick promising good luck. He cleans himself up and presents himself to the manufacturer to ask for a job. The owner thinks he might be good in sales so offers him a position but criticizes the decisions Emory makes. The good luck charm makes Emory's ideas turn into good sales so he goes into business for himself until he is rich and throws the charm into the street. His bad ideas now have their expected result and, impoverished once more, Emory spends all his time in the street looking for the discarded good luck charm.
