Synopsis for "A Kiss, A Curse, A Cure"
Following the conclusion of Deadpool #17, Deadpool is punched off of a cliff, and falls to his death. Standing outside his body he is greeted by Death who embraces and kisses him. He then relives various moments of his past and close crushes with death, including his selection as a Weapon X experiment by the Canadian government, and his first encounter with Mistress Death, who came to him while he was being tortured and experimented upon by Ajax and Dr. Killebrew. To Death’s surprise, Wilson can see her. He says he wants her; she teases him with a kiss and says he has to find a way to die. He strives to do this by antagonizing Ajax, but Dr. Killebrew forbids Ajax from killing him, so he begins torturing other patients that Wade has grown close to, such as Worm.
When Wade kills Worm to relieve his suffering, Killebrew grants permission to Ajax to kill him. Death welcomes his coming, but Wade now wants to stay alive to avenge Worm’s death. When Alax tears his heart out, it regrows. The experience drives him insane, and though Death is disappointed that he remains alive, he goes out to kill Ajax. After slaying Ajax he hopes Death will come back for him but she doesn’t.
Back in the present, Wilson’s killer is revealed to be Ajax, and Deadpool is very surprised to see him still alive. Then the souls of Worm and the other Weapon X rejects appear and tell him he needs to finish the job. He reluctantly agrees, and Death rewards him with a passionate kiss on the mouth. Then he finds himself alive again, and begins the quest to re-kill Ajax.
