Little is detailed about Death's life before the zombie plague hit Reality-2149, however, it can be assumed that he followed the same path as his Earth-616 counterpart to some extent.
A Skrull took the form of Death along with another Skrull posing as Thanos to deceive the Zombies that invaded their planet and devoured their people, however, a zombie Spider-Man got too close to them and discovered that they were not the real Thanos and Death so the zombies ended up devouring them.[1]
