History
The Death Blossom was a kind of flower created by the Cotati. The energy it emanates amplifies Cotati magic, boosting their control over plant life. The intensity of this boost varies depending on the soil where it is planted. The Cotati leader Quoi and his father, the Swordsman, began experimenting with the Death Blossom in the Kral System of the Skrulls before moving to Kree territory, since both races were the sworn enemies of the Cotati.
When the Kree and the Skrulls responded to the Cotati's intentions with the creation of the Alliance, Quoi and Swordsman moved their operations to the Blue Area of the Moon.[1] The Cotati forested it and planted a bud for a Death Blossom on top of it. In order to slow down the Alliance's incoming attack on them,[2] the Cotati enlisted the help of the Avengers, tricking them into thinking they were innocent targets of the Kree and the Skrulls.[3] The intervention of the Avengers when the Alliance's fleet arrived on the Blue Area of the Moon bought the Cotati enough time for the Death Blossom to bloom, and it was then used by Quoi to take down the fleet. With their powers amplified, the Cotati took control of every trace of plant life in the Alliance's fleet, erupting murderous vines that ravaged its ships and killed countless soldiers.[2]
For the next step in their war against all animal life, the Cotati invaded Earth, and eventually focused all their strength on attacking Wakanda, where Quoi and the Swordsman intended to plant a new Death Blossom which would allow them to extend their reach on a cosmic level due to the Vibranium-enriched soil of the Great Mound.[4] Quoi eventually managed to breach Wakanda's defenses, and planted a seed for the Death Blossom. With only minutes left before it bloomed, Black Panther managed to overpower the Swordsman in battle, impaling him with Excelsior the Star-Sword, and then pushing him into the Death Blossom tulip, destroying it. The previous Death Blossom on the Moon had also been destroyed when the Cotati garden in the Blue Area was weeded out by the forces of Krakoa's mutants.[5]See Also
