Synopsis for "Da'at: The Land Of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be"
In Dallas, Texas in 1963, Blue Marvel saves John F. Kennedy from assassination and tells the President about it directly, glad he didn't choose to follow his edict the year before. Adam then tells President Kennedy to practice a concession speech, as the next time they meet will be at the next Presidential Primaries. In what would be the present day, Adam is among the other Avengers for a party when greeted by Tigra addressing him as President despite the decades since his administration. As they mingle, The Beyonder compliments her status while Thor leaves Mjolnir and Captain America leaves his shield in her care as they do other things. They're joined by Miss America Chavez bringing her sister and sidekick, Catalina Chavez. When Adam notes her return from exile, Catalina remarks that she was in the real Utopian Parallel, which confuses America given what she remembers. When Adam see T'Challa and Carol, he comments that they could have an Ultimates reunion before Herald of Life, Taaia, arrives accompanied by her son Life Bringer Galactus.
However, as America sees the perfect world around her, she snaps out of the Maybe-Verse crafted by Glorian (Thomas Gideon) as she was still wearing the Eternity Mask. The miffed Glorian asks why America can't simply be happy, so he invites her to look up ahead if she wants someone to fight, presenting a horrifying Galactus illusion but isn't swayed. Glorian recognizes her wearing the mask, which remains constant even outside the outer bounds of reality, making America equally as powerful as him and giving her the strength of will to resist Glorian's illusory worlds. Glorian notes that her breaking free has caused a nightmare reaction in the others sharing the dream, and Glorian offers "returning" the false hope if America consents. She asks their whereabouts and Glorian clarifies that they're in the Abyss of the Land of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be, where there are no stories save what Glorian is god of. America realizes Loki isn't among them and can sense her encased in un-living bark screaming.
Glorian confesses to the deed as Loki would make a competing narrative, and Glorian's world has America return to her old self, countering it was a proven lie[1] thus Glorian is nothing but a God of Lies. Glorian blames her for such harm as he only wanted to make the fantasies true, and attempted but failed to become the personification of the Eighth Cosmos[2], not be some "continuation" but a full reboot and new beginnings for everyone. As Glorian manifests the Maybe-Verse world, America sees he is using his own material substance to create it, explaining the patches of his missing person as Glorian plans to make it permanent if they would contribute their own selves to sustaining it; with Glorian as the god of it. Glorian notes his works in the Maybe-Verse: Adam gets to ask what would have happened if he acted, Taaia can be proud of how what her son became, and Tigra is an A-List superhero respected by her peers. While Beyonder is flooded with adulation, Glorian promises to give America a complete and whole family, asking she suspend her disbelief and give him the mask-- promising reboot after reboot until he makes his desired world a reality.
She tearfully refuses and Glorian snaps at her with accusations of selfishness, but Taaia drops down and agrees with America, because if Glorian will reboot and reboot then eventually they'll never know who they were or what was their true story. Taaia accepts her sorrow, Tigra refuses to abandon her son Billy for a fake Thor's hammer, Blue Marvel refutes living a historical fiction. Glorian still pines for the Beyonder's power, but the Beyonder's one true desire is understanding desire, and after hearing four Defenders spurn him, Beyonder frees Loki from her imprisonment to hear her position. As Glorian threatens eternal imprisonment, America hears the fear in his voice and recalls his keeping Loki away while pining for the Eternity Mask. Making a play, America passes the Eternity Mask to Loki, who deduces that Glorian could have supplanted Eternity from the inside out with the mask-- made from Eternity himself.
As Loki thinks outside the box, she ignores Glorian's empty pleas and has the mask replace with her broken horn crown, calling for aid from the Pilgrim, the Queen of Nevers, and Fourth Cosmos itself. Summoning Cloud and her "Architypes," Pilgrim takes the Defenders away to leave Glorian trapped alone in the Abyss. Cloud explains he traps himself as he never saw other possibilities, as the other side of nowhere is everywhere, and the Abyss is also a mountaintop where all is visible in unchecked knowledge. Whereby the rest of reality is the Land of Can-Be-Shall-Be, as the Beyonder claims that is pure chaos as he was taught, but Cloud counters that the Beyonders are limited as they cannot see the future. Cloud continues that unchecked possibility is freedom, and posits the Loki that each has their own journey and the journey never ends. Even as they venture to the gateway to godhood itself: the doorway to the House of Ideas.

Notes
- "The Mystery" is a term Al Ewing often used to describe the realms located on the Outside, beyond the Far Shore. He conceived a "Mystery Map" after he saw how a few of them could fit on the Tree of Life; this series is a journey up the middle pillar.[3]
- "Da'at: The Land of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be" is the title of this issue.
Continuity Notes[]
- In Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel #1, President John F. Kennedy tells the Blue Marvel to stand down after he is revealed to be black, and Adam complies.
- Tigra joins the Avengers in Avengers #211, but she never makes it big.
- America Chavez begins to lose her powers, finds out that the Utopian Parallel dimension is just her own fabrication, and loses her sister in a botched attempt at getting their dead moms back in America Chavez: Made in the USA.
- The Ultimates from Ultimates (Vol. 3) and Ultimates 2 (Vol. 2) consists of the Blue Marvel, America Chavez, the Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Spectrum.
- Taaia is Galan' mom. This is shown in Defenders (Vol. 6) #2. She is initially unaware of her son's future as Galactus.
- The Ultimates turns the "Devourer of Worlds" Galactus into the "Lifebringer" in Ultimates (Vol. 3) #2.
- In Ultimates 2 #100, it is revealed that the "Lifebringer One" is the first hero from the Third Cosmos. This is reiterated by Taaia in Defenders (Vol. 6) #2 and is shown in Defenders (Vol. 6) #5.
- According to the "additional reading" section of this issue, the panel of the ravenous Devourer Galactus is a reference to Ultimates 2 (Vol. 2) #4 where Logos reverts the Lifebringer Galactus back to the Devourer, more hungry than ever before.
- The Eternity Mask is explored in Defenders (Vol. 6).
- The Land of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be is first seen in Silver Surfer (Vol. 7) #3 as a place outside reality; Incredulous Zed falls into a similar bleak area with strange "trees."

Rejecting Glorian's reality from Silver Surfer (Vol. 7) #15

The Shaper of Worlds whom Glorian stole the power of from Silver Surfer (Vol. 7) #15
- In Silver Surfer (Vol. 7) #13–15, Glorian saves the Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood from the final incursion by bringing them to the Land of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be. Glorian offers them the chance to rebuild the old universe using the power of the Shaper of Worlds as a ploy to weaken and usurp his master. Glorian then takes over the universe but the Eighth Cosmos is restored at around the same time. The Surfer and Dawn pick Eternity and Glorian's reality crumbles. (NOTE: This issue says "multiverse"; in the original story, Glorian's reality is just a "universe.")
- The holes in Glorian's body are similar to the ones in the Shaper's body in Silver Surfer (Vol. 7) #15.
- Tigra mentions her son Billy who first appears in Avengers: The Initiative #35.
- The Beyonder spends most of Secret Wars II trying to fit into the Multiverse. The cutouts are all people he encounters in Secret Wars II.
- The Thing is from Thing #30 and Secret Wars II #7.
- Dazzler is from Secret Wars II #4.
- Boom-Boom is from Secret Wars II #5.
- The Molecule Man is from throughout Secret Wars II.
- Regarding Taaia's rant to Glorian, although Galactus devours planets, he is said to give back to the universe more than he has taken away in Super-Villain Classics #1. His destiny is reiterated in Fantastic Four #262.
- Taaia's rant also references DC Comics' reboots.
- The Beyonder enters the Marvel Universe in an attempt to learn about desire, as he explains in Secret Wars II #3 and 8–9.

Loki's modern debut from Journey into Mystery #85
- Loki being trapped in a "tree" is a reference to his first modern appearance in Journey Into Mystery #85.
- Loki loses a horn and a tooth during a beatdown from his brother Odinson in Loki: Agent of Asgard #10.
- The Queen of Nevers, the lover of Eternity, is explored in Silver Surfer (Vol. 7) #2–3. (NOTE: In the original issues, the Never Queen is the lover of universal Eternity. Here, it is multiversal Eternity.)

Cloud with the Archetypes and the Pilgrim (Fourth Cosmos), promising to meet the Defenders in the Mystery, from Defenders (Vol. 6) #4
- The Pilgrim is the Sentience of the Fourth Cosmos, who is first mentioned in Ultimates 2 #100 as the missing member of the Ultimate Ultimates. The Pilgrim makes a proper appearance in Defenders (Vol. 6) #4. Here, it is revealed that the Pilgrim and the Never Queen are the same entity.
- The "Archetypes" of the Fourth Cosmos and Cloud are also from Defenders (Vol. 6) #4. Cloud and Taaia enter the Fourth Cosmos as part of the previous Defenders but Cloud chooses to stay behind and tells the Defenders that they shall meet again in the Mystery.
- The Beyonder expressing concern about unchecked possibility is a reference to Defenders: Beyond #2, where he explains that the Celestials created the Beyonders to prevent infinite unchecked possibility from becoming infinite instability.
- One of the doors to the House of Ideas shows up in Avengers No Road Home #9–10 in Hewlett Harbor, Long Island. It is clarified that the House has many doors.
