History
Queen Xaltana of Acheron had a temple built in the treasure mines of Acheron in northern Nemedia for the Demon God of Acheron, and attempted to supplant the worship of Set by the one of the Demon God. Her own subjects consequently conspired against her, thinking her possessed[1] after the wizard Kheperu had convinced many lesser mages of it.[2] The Demon God was in fact truly possessing Xaltana.
Xaltana was drugged, and was entombed alive in the temple, and the priests of Set who buried her were slain to keep the location of the tomb secret.
The Sons of Acheron searched for the mines for centuries with the goal of unleashing the power of the Demon God and restore Python.
When Prince Tarascus of Nemedia set an expedition to retrieve the Lost Mines of Acheron, Lady Demetzia was possessed by the Demon God and swiftly ripped the scholar Zimonides' heart, then Nemedian soldiers' hearts, and nearly Tarascus, timely saved by Conan who slew Demetzia. Demetzia killed, the Demon God exited her form. Conan slew the Demon God, but fled as its spawn emerged from the heart-ripped corpses. Conan and Tarascus managed to flee as the spawn of the Demon God encountered and devoured the Sons of Acheron. Conan toppled a pillar and caused the mountain to fall over the temple, either destroying the spawn or sealing them away.[1]Attributes
Powers
The Demon God displayed the following powers:
- Possession: The Demon God of Acheron could possess mortals and persist within their remains for thousands of years. When possessing a fresh body, the Demon God could rip hearts with the bare hands of its hosts. After exiting a killed host, the Demon God (as its spawn) enlarged to a higher-than-man size.
- Self-Reproduction: By drinking blood of its victims' heart, the Demon God could shapeshift into its true self and spawn its own kind.[1]
