History

The Destroyers were originally five slain US Soldiers whose bodies were outfitted with cybernetics and weaponry and resurrected and empowered by Hellfire energy by Project Hellfire to serve as a new class of super soldiers for the US Government. Upon being activated, the Destroyers went berserk, with one of them immediately committing suicide and the other four killing many personnel throughout the Pentangle and Pentagon. They were stopped by Hellverine, who managed to kill one of them before all parties disappeared following a destructive battle.[1]

One of the Destroyers, Peter Marmon, attempted to reunite with his family at his former home but was stopped by Wolverine, who had been tracking the Destroyers in order to find Hellverine, his son. As Marmon was still unstable since his resurrection, Wolverine was forced to kill him to protect Marmon's wife and daughter from him. Meanwhile, Harms sent a hellhound and some of his soldiers to follow Wolverine but when the soldiers lost control of the hellhound which then tried to kill Marmon's family, the two remaining Destroyers appeared to kill the hellhound and soldiers.[2]

Meanwhile, the Destroyers former commanding officer in life, Lieutenant Colonel Leon Townsend, recognized his former squad on television and confronted Dr. Spivey and General Harms at the Pentagle. Townsend demanded that they turn him into a Destroyer so that he could convince them to stand down. Despite Townsend still being alive, General Harms agreed with his request, as he needed the Destroyers back in control to prevent Project Hellfire from being shut down. When Harms secretly met with the Secretary of State, who had secretly funded the Destroyers, the two Destroyers ambushed them with one of them killing the Secretary. Hellverine showed up and slew the one who killed the Secretary but failed to stop the one remaining Destroyer as Harms grievously wounded him with a holy-water laced bullet.[3]

The last Destroyer, Corporal Jamie Doeden, fled to Nationals Park where he was found by the converted Townsend who was able to help him regain his sanity. Doeden and Townsend helped Hellverine and Wolverine kill Harms when he attempted to summon a demonic invasion within the US Government. Afterwards, Hellverine decided to leave Project Hellfire under the control of Spivey and the Destroyers.[4]
