Dr. Malheur was able to extract the hypothalamic fluid from the brains of Madripoorian spider-monkeys in order to provide the protein catalyst in a complex chemical process that yielded a serum to arrest carcinoma in human subjects.[1] Dr. Malheur worked for Dai Kumo in a secret laboratory in the Madripoor Hills.[2] After Dai Kumo's men returned defeated by Patch, Malheur worried that the Oyabun would lose confidence in him and unleash her Fixers on him.[3]
After the Madripoor debacle, Malheur concentrated on putting things right with Dai Kumo to avoid having his fingers cut off as punishment for failure.[4] To take revenge on the natives who protected the monkeys on which he performed the experiments, Malheur ordered the man he was in command to eliminate them all, including the forest where they lived, but Logan's fierce opposition was found which systematically eliminated many of his men.[5]
