Synopsis for "Frankensurfer"
The Silver Surfer comes down out of the sky and attacks Doctor Strange. Strange repels him with a bevy of magical incantations, but cannot understand why the Surfer would act so violently. He soon realizes that this is not the true Silver Surfer. The Surfer suddenly ceases his attack and flies off. Strange retires to his Sanctum where he consults with the Vishanti. He soon realizes that the being who attacked him is not the true Silver Surfer. In fact, the simulacrum that he encountered has roots with the infamous Frankenstein family.
Strange reads about the history of the Frankenstein Family and learns about the dark history that has enveloped each family member since the Middle Ages. He learns that some time ago, a man named Ludwig von Frankenstein created an artificial duplicate of the Silver Surfer. However this android perished along with Frankenstein and his hunchbacked servant, Borgo.
Strange leaves the Sanctum and seeks out Victoria Frankenstein – the last living descendent of the Frankenstein family line. He flies to Castle Frankenstein in the Swiss Alps. Victoria tells Strange that her father's assistant, Borgo, actually survived the fall that should have claimed his life and has been living in the castle ever since. He had recently discovered Ludwig's X-Machine – the same device used to create the "Frankensurfer". Borgo used the machine to heal his massive injuries, and the experiment turned him into a new Frankensurfer. This was the insane creature that attacked Strange back in New York.
Now the Frankensurfer wants to kill Victoria Frankenstein, so that there will be no one who can reverse the process. The Frankensurfer assaults Victoria, but Strange dives in front of her to protect. One of the monster's errant blasts strikes a nearby woman – one of the few beings who actually befriended poor Borgo. Wracked with guilt, the Frankensurfer decides to end his own existence by ramming into the side of the mountain. With repeated effort, the impacts gradually wear away the silver body coating, until he dies.
