History

Doctor Van Eyck was a renowned eye specialist who had moved to the European principality of Lichtenbad at the invitation of Duke Klaus Kruger. Hoping Van Eyck could cure Matt Murdock of his blindness, Karen Page arranged for Matt to fly to Lichtenbad to be operated on by Van Eyck. It turned out that both Van Eyck and Matt had been lured to Lichtenbad because Kruger planned to bring the greatest minds of the Earth to his country to support his slave state. Van Eyck learned of Murdock's double identity, but died before he could reveal this secret to anyone, sacrificing his life to prevent Kruger's cobalt bomb from going off.
