Jane Howlett's only childhood friend was Dog Logan, the son of the Howletts' groundskeeper Thomas Logan. However, she was forced to refrain from talking to him due to her parents' fear that she would fall in love with him.
One day, Jane ran into Dog at the stables, and confided to him that she didn't want to marry. Later that night, Dog and Thomas broke into the Howletts' residence, intending to sully Jane's reputation so that no man would want to marry her and that she could marry Dog, thus making Logan rich. Jane objected to this, however, her father John came in and tried to fight Logan, but he was killed along with Elizabeth by the drunk groundskeeper. Logan then tried to take Jane away, but the trauma of losing her parents activated her mutation, popping her claws for the first time, which she swiftly used to kill Thomas and scar Dog in a berserker rage before he ran into the night.[1]
