The Dome was a highly-advanced technological structure built by the Maker and the Children of Tomorrow in Northern Germany. Time moved faster inside the Dome than it did outside of it, which allowed the society within the structure to evolve one thousand years in advance to the rest of the world.[2]
History
The Dome was born from an idea Reed Richards had to save the Earth in his own way while escaping from the Negative Zone. Reed assembled a group he named the Children of Tomorrow and looked for the perfect place where they could build the Dome, ultimately settling in Northern Germany for its location, size and natural resources.[1][4]
One thousand years had passed in the time-accelerated environment of the Dome when the sentient City created inside of it began to express a desire to grow and move beyond the boundaries of its structure. The Dome's walls were consequently brought down so the Children could wage war on humanity in order to claim the Earth for themselves.[5] As the war went on, the City's structure started to expand through Europe while its main body remained inside the Dome. The United States government halted the expansion of the City by damaging the Dome with all of their nuclear weapons.[6] The Dome was restored at some point after the Maker retaliated by destroying Washington, D.C.[7]
Sometime after the Maker was imprisoned by the U.S., the City fell under unknown circumstances and its ruins were designated a radiation zone.[8] The City, alongside the Dome, was seemingly restored by the Maker later. He moved the City to Manhattan in preparation for the last incursion, which was between his universe, Earth-1610, and the only other remaining universe in the Multiverse, Earth-616.[9] Both realities and everything within them at the time were ultimately destroyed during the event.[10]
Alternate Reality Versions[]
Earth-616[]
In this reality, the Dome is located within the Vault, a temporal bubble inside the Wild Sentinel Factory in Ecuador, South America. The Vault is the home of the Children of the Vault, a group of post-humans whose evolution was curated by the City, an artificial intelligence that resides in the heart of the Dome.[11]
Earth-6160[]

The City within Latveria
In this reality, the City is located within the country of Latveria, serving as the headquarters of the Maker. It came under attack by an army of soldiers from the future seeking to kill the Maker during a globally televised event, but their attempt was thwarted following a battle against the various nation-state leaders at the scene.[3] Iron Man sacrificed himself to close the City shut trapping him, Maker, and Kang the Conqueror inside. This caused Maker's Council to divide Howard Stark's territory among themselves and Tony Stark becoming Iron Lad so that he can Doom can work on undoing what Maker done by starting a resistance group called the Ultimates.[12]
Six months later, the Ultimates have been formed with Thor, Sif, Captain America, Giant-Man, and Wasp to go up against Maker's Council and prepare for when the City opens. A disclaimer later stated that it will be 17 months until the City opens.[13] After the Ultimates rescued America Chavez from Midas at the White House, a disclaimer stated that it will be 16 months until the City opens.[14]
