History
An unknown adventurer calling himself Dominic Fortune worked with Silver Sable to locate innocent people who had unknowingly been made into sleeper assassins by rogue members of Sable's Wild Pack.[3]
After the Civil War, he was listed as a potential recruit to the Initiative.[4]
Fortune was part of the black ops superhero team, Vanguard, when he failed to assassinate Stacy Dolan for her role in the murder of Trenton Craft. He was forced to go into hiding when Craft returned alive and attempted to destroy all the members of the team who knew about his existence.[5]Notes
- Duvid Fortunov was the first to use the name Dominic Fortune for his career as a swashbuckler and brigand-for-hire in the decade before the Second World War. Dominic's son Jerry later briefly adopted the identity.
- Of the Modern-Age Dominic Fortune who appears in Sable and Fortune, the 2006 All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #3 says that "whether this is a rejuvenated David Fortunov or someone else remains unknown." The 2008 Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #3 is more explicit in referring to the "new Dominic Fortune" as a separate person, and this is confirmed by the appearance of the original Dominic as an old man (and therefore not rejuvenated) in S.H.I.E.L.D. (Vol. 3) #11.
