Donal Shaughnessy was a Hollywood actor in the 1930s who was disillusioned with the way the country was being run. He really agreed with the fascist political ideals of businessman Malcolm Upshaw. So much so, in fact, that he decided to leave Los Angeles in order to lead a militia put together by Upshaw, who conferred the rank of Colonel upon the former actor.[1] The militia practiced military drills in the San Fernando Valley for weeks preparing for their role in Upshaw's coup d'etat.[2] Finally, Shaughnessy traveled to Washington to await the arrival of his men in preparation for their attack.[3] The attack was to occur during the Columbus Day Parade outside of the White House, but just as Shaughnessy and his men were rushing the building, Dominic Fortune flew a diving seaplane into the mass of bodies, slicing them to ribbons with the plane's prop.[4]
