The man known as "Double-Beard" was a Nazi spy who was active during World War II. He earned his nickname due to the natural part in the middle of his chin causing a split in his beard. In the summer of 1943, he and his spy network were setup within the United States. Their sabotage work was investigated by the Angel who found Double-Beard's secret hideout and rounded up his men, but Double-Beard managed to escape.
He continued to sabotage U.S. war efforts by operating in the cafeteria of an aircraft base, where he had the meals and beverages of pilots drugged so they would crash their planes.
It was not until the Angel stowed aboard one of the bombers and witnessed the pilot pass out that he realized how the Nazi spies were causing the planes to crash. Rushing to the Air Force cafeteria, the Angel then knocked out Double-Beard and turned him over to the military.[1]
His subsequent fate is unknown.
