History

Douglas Arthur Cartland was the head of systems design for Cross Technological Enterprises and accompanied the Beast to Northwind Observatory to investigate the experiments of Bruce Banner after he had been transformed into the Hulk and had sacrificed his human persona to defeat Nightmare in the Dream Dimension. This caused Hulk to devolve into a creature with unchecked aggression and lacking a conscience which forced Doctor Strange to banish him to the Crossroads Dimension so that he wouldn’t have to be killed. Without the presence of Bruce Banner, the National Security Council had to decide what to do with his machines and a group of scientists and Avengers were sent to investigate. While at the laboratory, Cartland was fascinated with the sophistication of Banner's experiments and was scrutinized by various Avengers who felt he sought personal gain from the potential usage of Banner's discoveries.
