Dunwich was a city in California, tied to places of darkness, such as the Dunwich Sanatorium,[1] or the Dunwich Catacombs.[2]
History
Early years[]
For centuries, the Dunwich Catacombs were a place where the "most undesirable %#€holes" were buried, without names, services, last rites, headstones, etc.[2]
The horrific Dunwich Sanatorium was set in or nearby Dunwich.[3] Its headmaster, Dr. Swinson, use to provide reliable hit-men for the mob[4] and for governments, manufacturing assassins.[5]
Modern Age[]
After their defeat at the hands of Valkyrie, the Avengers and their allies, and the foiling of their Final Sleeper plot, Sin and Crossbones regrouped in the Dunwich Catacombs, where Daimon Hellstrom and the Wraithwitch had gathered the D.O.A. with new recruits, leaving the legacy of Thule, Hydra and A.I.M. behind them.[2]Points of Interest
Notes
- Dunwich was a fictional city in Massachusetts, created by H.P. Lovecraft in "The Dunwich Horror" (1929).
- In Earth-616, Dunwich is located in California. It was introduced in Wolverine Weapon X #6 with the Dunwich Sanatorium, presumably a reference to the Arkham Asylum, a DC Universe location whose name comes from Arkham, another city created by Lovecraft.
