Dylan Brock. I'm you, kid--and trust me, things are about to really get crazy. Welcome to the war.

Old Man Dylan[source]

History

This future version of Dylan Brock came to be as the result of him keeping the Venom symbiote after defeating Meridius at the end of the Venom War.[2] As the result of this, the symbiotes were hybridized with machinery to become powerful predators. These symbiote-machine hybrids were sent to eradicate Earth,[3] and in response humanity fought back by launching nukes at the attackers. This counterattack backfired as the symbiote-machines were barely affected while Earth's surface was rendered a nuclear wasteland.[1] Things got so dire, that even if by some miracle victory could be achieved, not enough people remained for the humanity to survive going forward. In his last ever talk with Doctor Strange before the magician's death, Strange was able to convince Dylan that there was no hope left for their timeline, and that the only thing left to do was to prevent it from happening using the Doomlock technology.[4]

Dylan ran through the ruins of New York City, chased by a trio of tentacled mechanical monstrosities. As they caught up to him, he fired a grenade at them and manages to kill one, taking out the second with a sonic shockwave. The third snared him in its tentacles as he tried to immolate it with a flamethrower, but before it could kill Dylan it was blasted by a beam of plasma shot by his friends Normie Osborn and Liz Allan. As Dylan argued that they should have stayed home and needed to leave before the radiation killed them, Bailey Briggs web-swung in and warned them that more of the mechanical monsters are en route. Bidding his loved ones farewell, Dylan prepared to time-jump using the Doomtech time machine strapped to his back. The horde of machine monsters arrived, killing Liz and grabbing Normie, just as Dylan found himself decades in the past, just before the Venom War was about to break out.[3]

Calming himself down, Dylan made his way to a derelict warehouse where he knew his past self was hiding out. Explaining who he was, Old Man Dylan told Young Dylan that he needed Young Dylan's help to change his past,[3] though he kept from the younger Dylan the role he himself was about to play in it.[2] Old Man Dylan was tempted to use Young Dylan to fix the mistakes he felt he made throughout his life, but stayed on-mission and traveled even further into the past.[3]

As Venom

As civilians gawked at his unusual appearance, Old Man Dylan's Venom symbiote griped that it hated time travel and grumbled that Doctor Doom probably made it uncomfortable on purpose. As the symbiote transformed into a leather jacket, white shirt, black jeans, and a cane to help him blend in, Dylan pulled out a newspaper clipping describing Molten Man's arrest. His symbiote spotted Mark Raxton obstructing traffic and suggested grabbing him there and then, but Old Man Dylan told the symbiote that they needed to be patient. As Raxton flew into a rage, Dylan noted Spider-Man's arrival on the scene. Dylan waited for the police to escort the captured Molten Man out onto the street. Steeling himself to see the younger version of his father, he was nonetheless caught off-guard to see his mother in the flesh for the first time. As Eddie snapped photos of Raxton, Dylan gawked at Anne and was told to focus up by his symbiote.[3]

Burning through the webbing binding his arms, Raxton made a run for freedom and threw a cruiser at the cops. Dylan tried to intervene but was punched in the face for his trouble. Lifting the cruiser off the injured cops using his symbiote-augmented strength, Dylan chased Raxton into an alley and transformed his civilian disguise into his body armor. Blasting Raxton with a flamethrower, Dylan punched him in the face and then transformed one arm into a massive syringe as Raxton grabbed him by the throat--his molten-hot skin burning Dylan's symbiote-infused flesh. Stabbing Raxton in the gut with the syringe-arm, Dylan extracted a sample of his molten blood, only for Spider-Man to arrive and quippingly ask him to keep it family-friendly.[3] Despite his protests, Venom overtook Dylan and attacked Spider-Man. Wrestling control back, Dylan addressed Peter by his real name and unmasked himself, telling him that they would become friends in the future. Peter would not listen and webbed him up before rushing to catch the escaping Molten Man. Dylan effortlessly rid himself of the webs and went for the next stage of his mission: to see the past Doctor Strange. The magician extracted the symbiote, believing it to be a demon, but returned it to Dylan after seeing that he was dying without it. Dylan asked Stephen for help in getting to Chthon and showed his the memory of Strange's older self come up with that plan to convince the younger Stephen to help.[4]

Strange was moved by the plea for help and took Dylan to the Flickering Realms, warning him not to make any deals while down there. They were attacked by the horde of Demons, but Strange demanded to see their master, and Chthon had answered.[4] He had put Dylan through a test which he had passed, stating that he would give everything, including his life, to prevent his future from coming to pass. Chthon asked for the knowledge of his first love, his mother, his friendships, all music he knew, his dreams at night, his sense of taste and his name. Dylan agreed, demanding that in exchange Chthon imbue his magic into his molten weapon and returning both him and Strange to Sanctum Sanctorum safe and sounds. The deal was made, with Dylan no longer remember his or the magician's name, but knowing that he had to finish his mission. Strange opened a portal to help him on his way, sending him to Jotunheim where after seven days of walking Old Man Venom - the only way he now knew himself - met Loki.[1] The God of Mischief was initially uncooperative, but Old Man Venom pleaded for his help in forging the weapon, saying that it could not be forged in the light and that he knew that Loki would help him in exchange for a piece of it. Realizing the power of what the Old Man possessed and wondering whether he himself knew it, Loki agreed to a deal and took him to Nidavellir. The work took a long time, but eventually produced two golden Eganrac bullets, one for Loki and one for Old Man Venom.[5]

Mission accomplished

As a final favor, Loki send Old Man Venom back to Midgard at the same time he immediately came from, still over a decade before the Venom War, where Old Man Venom ran into Meridius. Meridius recognized him as Dylan from the future and read his mind, but Old Man Venom managed to distract him long enough to time-jump one last time - right to the Madison Square Garden in the moment after his past self had stabbed their father with the Codex Blade.[5] Meridius arrived to savor his victory and threw All-Blood the Necrospear at Young Dylan, but Old Man Venom fired the Eganrac bullet that hit him before, empowering the Venom symbiote and transforming it into a golden form. Young Dylan picked up the All-Blood and stabbed Meridius with it, killing him and thanking his older self. Old Man Venom however then revealed that it was always him who was responsible for the bad future and that the weapon was meant for his own self. Eganrac - the Anti-Carnage - and the Carnage of All-Blood reacted with one another and began to corrode the Venom symbiote, who ejected Dylan out to save his life and fled away, appearing to have perished.[2] Normally, changing the past thus would have resulted in the creation of a divergent timeline while the original one still continued to exist, but the use of Doomlock technology allowed the time-travelers to truly alter their own past,[6] and Old Man Venom vanished from existence as his original timeline ceased to be.[2]
