History

The horse that later became known as Eagle was a wild stallion that lived in the state of California during the days of the American Frontier. The horse earned the ire of horse ranchers for stealing their mares, so the horse was chased into the Mojave Desert. It was left there to die. However the horse survived the attack, and seeking water, followed the scent of it to a local watering hole. The horse was unaware that famous gunfighter Matt Slade, also desperately needing water, was following behind the horse. When the horse collapsed near the watering hole, Slade brought it water and food and nursed it back to health. Seeking shelter in a nearby cave, Slade and the horse ran into the Utah Kid and his gang, the outlaws that were responsible for Slade being stuck in the desert without a horse. Slade was surprised when the horse came to his aid, knocking out the outlaws. However when Matt attempted to bring Utah back to town, the horse insisted that he ride it. Taking the stallion as his own, Matt decided to name the horse Eagle.[1]
