Notes

  • Earth-58914 is an unproduced Daredevil cartoon from the 1980's that was initially picked up and then dropped by ABC. In summer 1980, Marvel Entertainment Group President James E. Galton and Marvel Comics Publisher Stan Lee nearly convinced ABC to produce a live-action Daredevil series to the point where a pilot script was completed, but animation was booming then. Evanier said that he wrote the story bible and pilot, but ABC was dissatisfied with all approaches. He practiced throwing out concepts and changes that others including Stan Lee did to the basic premise, mainly characters and gimmicks far less faithful to the premise than the idea of a dog companion, returning it to Wally Wood's drawn Daredevil. While the Daredevil show was even announced in the Hollywood trade papers, one Marvel staffer verbally incited an ABC executive who sought another project on the Daredevil show's timeslot, leading to Daredevil taken off the network. Evanier and his agent briefly argued with Marvel over a series-pickup bonus, which ultimately was paid. He believes NBC later considered the show but did not borrow it, as networks generally dislike picking up things that their competitors passed on.
