History
In this reality, Earth entered an era of galactic expansion in the year 3000. Rocketships were sent out into the galaxy to create a galactic empire, with Earth appointing governors as overlords over each planet.
One such planet was Betalguese II, which was inhabited by a primitive but friendly species that resembled humans in almost all respects, but breathed a different atmosphere. The planet's governor was an arrogant man who refused to have any contact with the 'inferior' natives; a policy that would inevitably doom him when the oxygen pump in his palace broke, and his subjects were too afraid of his wrath to approach him to assist with repairs.
