History
A reality that has some differences from Earth-616. The differences include Flint Marko and Norman Osborn being distant cousins, Electro having a different initial costume than his 616 self, Peter Parker and Otto Octavius receiving their super-powered origin in the same exact accident, and so forth.
Notes
- The reality wherein Spider-Man: Chapter One series takes place, Earth-98121 is an alternate reality where Peter Parker’s origin and early years as Spider-Man are updated to modern times, albeit not to the same extent as on Earth-1610.
- Spider-Man: Chapter One was meant to reboot the continuity of the mainstream Spider-Man and to retcon the original run of Spider-Man by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.[1] However, this retcon was eventually reversed and the original run was restored back to canon, with Chapter One being relegated to its own separate continuity.
- Since Spider-Man: Chapter One was meant to serve as a prequel to some or all of the other Spider-Man books of the era as part of a rebooted Spider-Man continuity, it is possible some of those books (and possibly some of the earlier ones) could be canon to Earth-98121 as well as Earth-616, particularly Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 2), which Chapter One writer John Byrne worked on, and which included direct references to Chapter One. Another present-day series that referenced Chapter One at the time of its release was Daredevil (Vol. 2). A flashback in issue #2 utilized the Chapter One origin of a wounded wounded Peter Parker being bitten by the radioactive spider under rubble, instead of Peter's regular origin.
