Notes
- In the early years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Comics published numerous comic book titles that were meant to take place in this reality, including prequels and stories that followed the adventures of the heroes between the events of the films. Over time, Marvel Studios' approach to the tie-in material and the MCU continuity has changed, resulting in decanonization of some of these comics. In 2012, a red stamp was introduced to distinguish canonical stories from those that were inspired by the films but were not part of their world;[1] pre-stamp series that are considered MCU canon are Iron Man: I Am Iron Man, Iron Man 2: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Man 2: Public Identity and Captain America: First Vengeance.[2][3] Additionally, any MCU comic released under the Infinity Comic banner is a part of MCU canon.[4]
- Jessica Jones #1 doesn't have the red stamp on the cover and was not included in Marvel Cinematic Universe: The Marvel Comics Omnibus #1, but Marvel confirmed that it does take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[5]
- As such, the following comics are split into this reality:
- Phase 1: Iron Man: Fast Friends, Incredible Hulk: The Fury Files, Iron Man: Security Measures #1, The Incredible Hulk: The Big Picture #1, Iron Man/Hulk/Fury #1, Target Iron Man 2 Custom Comic #1, Iron Man: Will Online Evils Prevail? #1, Iron Man Royal Purple Custom Comic #1, Iron Man 2: Fist of Iron #1, Thor, The Mighty Avenger, Thor: Rescue, Captain America & Thor!: Avengers #1, Captain America: Evil Lurks Everywhere #1, Marvel's The Avengers: The Avengers Initiative #1
- Phase 2: Iron Man: The Coming of the Melter #1, Thor: Crown of Fools #1, Captain America Homecoming #1, Guardians of the Galaxy: Galaxy's Most Wanted #1, Avengers: Operation Hydra #1, Ant-Man: Larger Than Life #1
- Phase 3: Kellogg's Presents Captain America: Civil War #1, Captain America: Road to War #1, Doctor Strange: Mystic Apprentice #1, Spider-Man Homecoming: Fight or Flight #1, Spider-Man Homecoming: Morning Rush #1, Spider-Man Homecoming: School of Shock #1, Spider-Man: Far From Home - Got To Hand it To Him, Dollar General Exclusive #1
- TV series: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Chase #1
- Even though these comics are no longer considered canon to Earth-199999, most of them still fit into continuity. There are some exceptions though: second story in Captain America & Thor!: Avengers #1 was ignored and contradicted by Thor: The Dark World, as was Nick Fury: Spies Like Us by Captain Marvel.
- Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas was also intended to take place within the continuity of the Iron Man film, a fact that was confirmed by Tom Brevoort.[6] Adi Granov, however, stated in an interview with Comic Book Resources in 2008 that Viva Las Vegas is standalone and independent of any continuity, with references to the film being just Easter eggs.[7] After a while, it was fully retconned out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and placed in its own reality, designated as Earth-80734 by The Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe.
