History

It was late at night and Cyclops, Colossus and Iceman returned from a mission severely weakened. After examining all three, Jean Grey had grave news for Professor Xavier: Scott's team contracted some kind of virus which was attacking their mutant cells directly. Hank McCoy along with his new assistant was already examining Iceman while Jean and Professor were talking. Beast quickly realized that a vaccine must be made. Beast's assistant was successful at making Cyclops, Colossus and Iceman stable, but however Hank himself got infected and couldn't continue his work. Gladly he already finished the vaccine and after he was stabilized by the assistant, Jean Grey administered the vaccine to destroy the virus once and for all. The mysterious assistant was welcomed to the X-Men by Professor X.[1]

Later, a new threat for mutants appeared in the form of a massive army of deadly battle robots, called Sentinels. Constructed by Bolivar Trask, in order to avenge his father's death, these robotic soldiers could be modified with different weapon systems. To make matters worse, the Mutant Brotherhood raided the unknown production facility and forced Trask to reprogram the Sentinels to target both humans as well as other mutants. Thus, the final war which would detemine the future of humanity began.

Using Cerebro, Professor X detected the presence of Mystique and Magneto in a Trask Industries complex in the South Coronado Island, near San Diego Bay. While the rest of the X-Men were deployed around the world defending humanity from the unstoppable tide of Sentinels, Wolverine was sent on a desperate mission to stop the Brotherhood and destroy the source of this menace once and for all.

Wolverine found Mystique on the base, followed her and defeated in battle. However, a Sentinel came to help. The robot incinerated Wolverine and Mystique could escape, promising they would meet again. After that Wolverine travelled to Muir Island, where Mystique went to download advanced attack algorithms from the previously abandoned Sentinel program. Wolverine confronted Mystique again and defeated her for good, but she told Logan he failed his mission. It was too late and she already uploaded all the data.

Professor sent Wolverine to Ecuador next, because that was where the data transmission from Mystique left a trail. There, Wolverine met Magneto, who was already expecting Logan. Even though being defeated, Magneto still gloated that the Brotherhood would not be ruled or contained and that Wolverine can't stop them. After that he escaped.

Wolverine travelled to Genosha, where Magneto had a secret base. Wolverine and Magneto fought again. This time Magneto was put down for good, along with a giant Super Sentinel. The war continued, but X-Men had the upper hand. Later, the war seemingly ended and a new age of human-mutant peace dawned.[2]
