Edgar Allan Poe was an American short-story writer, poet, critic, and editor who is famous for his cultivation of mystery and the macabre. He was famous for writing "The Raven, The Sleeper, and The Conqueror Worm", "The Tell-Tale Heart, Spirits of the Dead, Eulalie & The Lake", and "Izrafel, The Happiest Day, & Berenice".

  • Chamber of Darkness #2 and #3 featured respectively modern retellings of "The Day of the Red Death!" and "The Tell-Tale Heart"
  • Another modern retelling of "The Tell-Tale Heart", this time a humorous take, appeared in Crazy Magazine #7.
  • Rocket Raccoon #2's title, "The Masque of the Red Breath", is a reference to the story The Masque of the Red Death.
    • The last two pages of Thor #374 include an extract of Poe's The Masque of the Red Death, used as a narration to describe a scene.
