History

Early Years[]

Eddie Brock was a reporter for the Daily Globe newspaper before an impulsive mistake left him disgraced and blacklisted. Blaming Spider-Man for his misery, Eddie went to the Our Lady of Saints Church to take his own life, but encountered the symbiote formerly bonded to Spider-Man, learning his enemy's deepest secrets in the process. Taking the moniker Venom, Eddie and the symbiote became a vicious supervillain, but eventually set aside their hatred of Spider-Man and mellowed into an antiheroic vigilante. Clashing with the dark god Knull, who'd created the symbiotes, Eddie vanquished him and became the new King in Black.

Midnight Suns[]

Corrupted by Lilith into Fallen Venom.

When the dark goddess Lilith was resurrected, to prepare to unleash her master Chthon she corrupted numerous antiheroes and villains to serve as her Fallen minions, sending them to fight the Midnight Suns. Fallen Venom was dispatched to vanquish the Hunter and abduct the Scarlet Witch, encasing the Sanctum Sanctorum in symbiote biomass and engaging the Midnight Suns in battle. Venom easily defeated the Hunter, but was stopped from eating them by Spider-Man's arrival. Enraged, Venom abandoned their mission to chase after Spider-Man, roaring their intent to devour him. Fallen Venom's battle with Spider-Man was interrupted by the arrival of Crossbones and a squad of Hydra soldiers, who'd been sent to capture Venom and bring them back to base. Defeating the Hydra agents, Fallen Venom was again distracted by the arrival of the Midnight Suns, buying Spider-Man time to jerry-rig a sonic weapon using a microphone and several loud speakers to drive them off.

Returning to Lilith, Fallen Venom was sent to help Hydra invade the Sanctum through the subway tunnels, ambushing the Midnight Suns and declaring their intent to devour them. The Hunter impaled Fallen Venom with their sword in an attempt to purge Lilith's corruption, but was unsuccessful and nearly corrupted themselves. Fallen Venom was later dispatched alongside Crossbones and the corrupted Bruce Banner to attack the Sanctum Sanctorum again, chasing after Spider-Man when the hero offered himself up as a distraction. Spider-Man lured Fallen Venom to Our Lady of Saints Church intending to once again use the bell to vanquish the symbiote, but Fallen Venom caught him off-guard and pinned him under some rubble. Before Fallen Venom could finish Spider-Man off, the Hunter arrived and knocked them into the bell. Realizing where they were, Fallen Venom flew into a rage and smashed the main bell, sending it crashing to the ground floor. Spider-Man was able to use his webbing to yank the bell back up long enough for the ringing to obtain a sample of the symbiote and send Fallen Venom plummeting to the ground, the bell seemingly crushing them.

Fallen Venom survived and retreated to the subway tunnels under New York City. When Dracula resurfaced and began creating an army of vampyres, Fallen Venom began devouring them and was infected by vampyrism, becoming Blood Venom. Blood Venom attacked the Hunter and Spider-Man, but was defeated. The Hunter prepared to kill Venom but was stopped by Mephisto, who offered to cure Venom of both their vampyrism and Lilith's corruption in exchange for the Midnight Suns agreeing to help defeat Dracula. Eddie offered to temporarily set aside his grudge against Spider-Man to protect the innocent; Venom joining the Hunter in rescuing civilians. Displeased, Mephisto teleported the Hunter and Venom to Limbo and threatened to re-corrupt Venom unless the Midnight Suns upheld their end of the bargain by defeating Dracula. Saving the Hunter by devouring a demon, Venom annoyed Mephisto into telling them and the Hunter where to find Dracula, attacking him when he threatened to imprison them in Limbo forever if they failed.

Teleported back to the world of the living, Eddie made his way to Our Lady of Saints Church searching for the entrance to Dracula's lair, and was found there by the Hunter and Spider-Man. Lamenting that he and the symbiote had harmed innocents under Lilith's control, Eddie despaired at his inability to do anything right but was given a pep-talk by Spider-Man that somewhat restored his resolve. Interrupted by a horde of vampyres emerging from the catacombs under the church, Venom helped the Hunter and Spider-Man face down and defeat Dracula and destroy the last of the vampyres. While Dracula escaped swearing revenge, Mephisto was nonetheless pleased and declared that the Midnight Suns had fulfilled their end of the deal. Eddie subsequently joined the Midnight Suns to help take down Lilith by using his journalistic skills to rally a network of conspiracy theorists in addition to fighting as Venom.[1]

Personality

Eddie possesses a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect the innocent and atone for the monstrous acts he committed after first bonding to the symbiote; though deep down he believes he is a monster incapable of redemption, and that all his attempts to do so will end in failure and only make things worse. Obsessed with fitness, he enjoys working out to maintain his Olympian physique.

As Fallen Venom, Eddie and the symbiote regress to being a bloodthirsty rage-fuelled monster with an insatiable appetite for flesh and an unceasing hatred of Spider-Man--made even worse after they contract vampirism. Loyal to Lilith, they refer to her as their Mother and obey her commands, though their hatred of Spider-Man can lead to them going AWOL.[1]

Trivia

  • According to the Caretaker, Fallen Venom is a Level 5 Demon Alien Hybrid.
  • Eddie's pronouns are he/him as a human and they/them as Venom.
  • Venom's Clean skin seems based on their counterpart from Earth-688B, their In Knull We Trust skin is based off their Knullified appearance in Venom (Vol. 4), their Friendly Neigborhood Symbiote skin is based on Randy Schueller's original concept for Spider-Man's black suit, Steel Wind resembles Riot from the Venom movie, their Project V skin is based on Weapon V's Sym-Soldiers, and their Toxic Protector skin is based off Hydra Venom.
  • Unlike other versions of Spider-Man's arch-nemesis tends to be Green Globin and according to Peter Parker himself, Venom is the first of Spider-Man's villains gallery during the events of Marvel's Midnight Suns. However, the Earth-TRN994 is his own version of the Green Globin. Though from the looks of it, the Norman Osborn of this universe has already reformed by the events of the game.
  • Eddie's comment that he has two conflicting dreams of the Venom symbiote's pre-Earth history--one where it bonded to a Kree soldier and one where it bonded to an alien warrior on an icy planet--is a reference to the conflicting narratives of the Earth-616 Venom symbiote's first hosts relayed in Venom: Space Knight #8 and Venom: First Host #1-#2 respectively.
