History

Erik Garrettson was the nephew of Sir Percy of Scandia, King Arthur's Black Knight who fell in battle when a time-traveling Doctor Doom seized Camelot for himself. Demoralised and defeated, Erik and his people fled to Scandia, where they eked out a meagre existence while Doom tightened his grip on England.

Many years later, however, Erik encountered Doom's renegade daughter Valeria , as well as Nathanial Richards, another time traveler, who was now posing as the wizard Merlin. Captivated by Valeria's passion and strength, and inspired by Nathanial's speeches about the glory of Arthur's Camelot, Erik was persuaded to challenge Doom's rule. Rousing his people, he reclaimed his uncle's Ebony Blade, and rode into battle atop the winged horse Valinor.

When his army engaged Doom at the walls of Camelot, Erik fell into a beserker rage, his Ebony Blade cutting down both friend and foe. Even his mount Valinor was not spared, as when dawn broke, Erik stood alone atop a pile of corpses.

Entering the castle, he slew Doom, but with only himself, Valeria, and a dying Nathanial remaining alive, he found little to celebrate in this hollow victory. Promising it did not need to end this way, Nathanial activated Doom's time platform, sending Erik and Valeria back to just before the fall of Camelot. As the timeline altered again, Nathanial predicted that Doom would fall once more beneath Erik's blade, and that this time the dream of Camelot and the Black Knight would survive.[1]
