History
Eleanor Rand was a woman living in England, on the border of Scotland. She was courted by the local-born Jim O'Brien and by the Englishman Richard Brent.[1] The three were possibly respectively the reincarnations of the Aquilonian girl Tamera, the Cimmerian Conan, and the Gunderman Gaeric.
Though having mixed feelings and love for both, Eleanor directed her affections towards Brent. O'Brien consequently planned to murder his rival for the attention of Eleanor Rand, whom he felt would fall for him if Brent was to disappear.
Setting his trap at Dagon's Cave, Jim, Eleanor, and Richard relived the lives of Tamera, Conan, and Gaeric the day of the Siege of Venarium, when Conan chased the couple to obtain the favors of Tamera, and saw them leap to their death at Dagon's Cave rather than fall to the People of the Dark that inhabited the place.
Coming to her senses, the memories of Tamera led Eleanor to declare her love for Richard over Jim. Overhearing the scene, Jim was about to shoot at Richard and possibly at Eleanor, but instead stepped in to fight the last of the People of the Dark, a monster that had lost all human semblance. Jim died with it, saving Eleanor and Gaeric and paying an old debt.[1]Notes
- Eleanor Bland was created by Robert E. Howard in his Cthulhu Mythos story "People of the Dark" (Strange Tales; June, 1932), freely adapted in Savage Sword of Conan #6 (June, 1975), written by Roy Thomas and penciled by Alex Nino, in which she was renamed "Eleanor Rand".
