Emil Nikos was the best friend of Michael Morbius, who grew-up with him and went to university together, majoring in biochemistry. Emil dedicated his life to seeking the cure to Michael's rare blood disease and they won the Nobel Prize in Biology for their efforts. When the experiment failed, turning Michael into "The Living Vampire," Emil was the first victim of Morbius' bloodlust.[1] His body was discovered by Martine Bancroft,[2] and he was then transformed into a vampire by Baron Blood.[3]

History

Early Life[]

Growing up in Nafplio, Greece, Emil and Michael shared a longstanding friendship that stretched back to their early years.[4] Their childhood memories included playful moments with his sister Elizabeth, engaging in activities such as blowing bubbles and enjoying pastries together.[5] Despite Michael's delicate health condition his rare blood disease and fragile bones Emil remained a loyal friend. However, Michael's mother often prohibited their outdoor adventures due to his condition. Nonetheless, one night, Michael defied his mother's restrictions and ventured out with Emil, resulting in a harrowing accident that left Michael with broken bones. This incident solidified Emil's understanding of Michael's vulnerability, leading to a vow to protect him at all costs.[4]

Their friendship continued to flourish into their teenage years, along with their companionship with Elizabeth and Nikos [5]. Emil, true to his promise, pursued higher education alongside Michael, determined to seek a cure for his friend's ailment [4]. Subsequently, Emil became a crucial lab assistant to Dr. Michael Morbius, dedicating years to aiding Morbius in his quest for a remedy [6][4].

Their collaborative efforts led them to Morbius' laboratory in Greece, where they toiled tirelessly in pursuit of a cure. Despite Nikos' pessimism about the progress, Morbius remained optimistic, even amid unsuccessful attempts utilizing fluids distilled from a vampire bat's blood [6][4]. Their work eventually earned Morbius a Nobel Prize, though Morbius' deteriorating health became apparent by this time [7].

Death[]

Amidst his affliction, Morbius confided in Nikos, instructing him to conceal the severity of his illness from his fiancée, Martine Bancroft. Morbius, believing that a sea voyage was essential for the next phase of his experiments, used the Nobel Prize money to rent a yacht. Despite Martine's insistence on joining, Nikos, Morbius, and Martine set sail from Greece to an English seaport, where they chartered a yacht for their journey. During the experiment at sea, as Morbius underwent a procedure involving electro-shock treatment to generate blood cells, Nikos, overwhelmed by Morbius' suffering, halted the process. Subsequently, Morbius attacked Nikos in a bloodthirsty frenzy, inadvertently causing Nikos' demise [6][4]. Martine discovered Nikos' lifeless body on the yacht [8][9]. Following Emil's funeral, his sister harbored a vow for vengeance against Michael Morbius [5].

Resurrection[]

Later, Baron Blood, driven by a desire to punish Morbius for his perceived transgressions against vampirekind, resurrected Nikos as a vampire. This act marked Nikos' return, accompanied by Baron Blood and a cadre of vampires, confronting Morbius and accusing him of defiling the purity of the vampire lineage through his experiments. Nikos, revealed as one of the vampires, issued a warning to Morbius before departing with Blood and the others.[3]

In the aftermath of these events, Michael Morbius paid respects at Emil Nikos' grave, reflecting on their enduring friendship and the recent loss of Emil's son, Christos.[7]
