History

Emma Frost was a mutant telepath and a member of the Inner Circle.

Phoenix

When the X-Man Jean Grey manifested the powers of the Phoenix, the telepathic blowback alerted Emma of the Phoenix's existence.

She exploited Professor Xavier's weakened telepathic defenses to hack into his database and learn of Jean and the Phoenix. She shared this knowledge with her fellow members in the Inner Circle, who were searching for powerful individuals to recruit to their cause. Together with Mastermind, Emma attacked Jean's mind in order to brainwash her and turn her to their side. The X-Men intervened to save Jean, but were too late, as Mastermind succeeded in seizing control of Jean and the Phoenix.

This control proved temporary however. The Phoenix broke free from Mastermind's illusions and released the captured X-Men before departing. The X-Men managed to defeat the Inner Circle, who fled.

Genosha

Frost would later join the Interim Council of Genosha and was later present at the Gala. During the attack on Genosha she was buried underneath the rubble and underwent a secondary mutation. She was later rescued in her diamond form by Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Six months after the disappearance of the active X-Men roster, Emma Frost was listed on Forge's roster of X-Men.

• Diamond Mimicry: Emma can enter a diamond form which grants her superhuman durability, such as when she was able to survive being crushed under falling debris and rubble.

Notes

The White Queen and the Black King

• Emma Frost made appearances in X-Men: The Animated Series as the White Queen of the Inner Circle Club (the name used for the Hellfire Club in the series). Emma appears in the first three parts of the series' adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga; and is shown briefly among a group of telepaths in the episode "Beyond Good and Evil Part 4: End and Beginning."
• Emma's character design for the TV series is similar to her first appearance in the comics during the Dark Phoenix Saga.
