History

Apocalypse's history is presumably similar to his Earth-616 counterpart's. Apocalypse sensed the awakening of the super-powerful machine the Unmaker and became intrigued by it. The Unmaker nearly destroyed the world but was eventually stopped by an EMP unleashed by Doctor Strange. However, Strange failed to close the portal the EMP came from, unleashing an EMP that devastated technology all over the world.[1]

Wars and chaos erupted afterward, but eventually, society rebuilt itself with the exception of Europe, which Apocalypse took over.[2] Wanting to reawaken the Unmaker to seize control of its power, Apocalypse studied him for years.[3] Apocalypse also used the mind-control power of the Purple Man to take control of great geniuses to serve his needs, including Reed Richards, Riri Williams, and Tony Stark.[2]

After taking control of Stark, Apocalypse showed the geniuses under his thrall where the Unmaker was and asked them what how would they stop the EMP being unleashed from Strange's portal. Stark hypothesized that the source of the EMP was a neutron star. Apocalypse then stated that he needed the geniuses to stop the EMP for at least an hour so he could take control of the Unmaker. Stark said that it was impossible but that he liked a challenge.[3]

The geniuses worked to create a sphere made of various metals to block out the EMP long enough for Apocalypse to transfer his mind into the Unmaker. As the sphere was close to completion, a group of heroes arrived to stop Apocalypse's plan. Apocalypse sent a group of brainwashed prisoners to buy time. When the mind control was broken, Apocalypse attempted to escape to the Earth's core with the sphere, but he was prevented from doing so by Invisible Woman. Apocalypse was then vampirized by his ally Dracula who turned on him after he learned the truth of Apocalypse's plan from Doctor Doom. Blade then killed both Apocalypse and Dracula.[4]
