Synopsis
Overview[]
The English Civil War lasted from 1642 to 1651 stemmed from conflict between King Charles I and his royalist Parliament's Roundheads lead by Oliver Cromwell over an Irish insurrection.[1]
Events[]
Mr. Mortimer was loyal to the royalists during this time. This ultimately lead to him being cursed as a Vampire; becoming "Varney the Vampire".[2]
The Eternity Mask a powerful mystica object was passed down through the centuries, serving as a catalyst for pivotal moments in British history one being the English Civil War.[3]
In 1649 AD, the second phase ended with Charles I's defeat at the "Battle of Preston" and his subsequent execution.[4] Later that year Charles I's son, Prince Charles, then formed an army of English and Scottish Royalists. Also in 1649, allied with both Catholic and Royalist Irish allies, he led a re-conquest of Ireland.Irish rebels rose up to oppose Cromwell's army.[5] Cromwell and his forces would end up killing perhaps a third of the population of Ireland.[1]
In 1651 AD, Cromwell shattered the remaining Royalist forces and ended the war.[4]
Legacy[]
After the war Cromwell served as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1653 until his death.[1] After that his son Richard inherited his role.
In 1658 AD, Charles II eventually ascended to the throne returning the monarchy to England.[4]See Also
