Epeius was the son of Panopeus.

He was one of the warriors who sailed to Troy to help Menelaus retrieve his wife Helen who had been taken by Troy king Priam's son Priam.

One night of the last year of war, Athena came to him in his dreams, urging him and the Argives to fashion a great and massive horse from wood, then burn their tents and sail away to Tenedos.

While Epeius didn't understood the meaning of the divine orders, Odysseus,[1] helped by Loki,[2] devised that the horse should be hollow, allowing warriors to hide in it, wait for them to come out once the Trojans would have brought it inside the walls of Troy.[1]
