Synopsis for "Return to Big Nothing"
Inside of a truck, the Punisher armed himself with a stolen assault rifle and stolen grenades meant to be sold to a Cambodian gang affiliated with Khieu Dap and during the deal, he hid inside until one of the buyers revealed himself to be working with the F.B.I. After a gunfight broke out between the criminals and the mole and another agent named Lee Costa, Frank shot at the criminals and dropped a grenade inside of the truck, causing an explosion, before taking a briefcase full of money and a dying Costa with him. In order to keep Costa alive, Frank kept him talking and the agent mentioned that he was attempting to confront Cleve Gorman, Frank's sergeant from the Marines. In the past, Frank was stationed with Gorman at a camp that he knew has "Big Nothing" and how his belief that the Viet Cong weren't trained as well as them and that they could defeat the Viet Cong within two weeks led to a fight between them, which ended with Gorman defeating him and calling him "Big Nothing."
Costa bled out in Frank's car before Frank took his ID while planning to reach Gorman at Pendleton. Meanwhile, Gorman learned about the shootout and explosion and the agent's death and called a former comrade named Snow about it, as they both learned from one of the former's files that the Punisher was Frank Castle. Gorman remembered Siem Pang, in which he had Frank take point, but got many of their comrades killed because he had failed to warn them.
Impersonating Costa, Frank visited Pendleton before finding Gorman and attempted to leave with him, but the latter came prepared with the relatives of the Cambodian gangsters he had killed earlier. Gorman and the criminals tied him up and beat him before the criminals drove him inside of the trunk of a car and detonated a bomb inside of it. Although the criminals believed that they had killed Frank, he actually escaped by kicking the weak back seat from the trunk before kicking the window. Later, he was led to Verta Mae's in Nevada to wait for the gang to arrive and when he slept with one of the women, he had a dream of Maria before waking up. After the gang arrived, Frank killed four criminals and learned that they were supposed to take Verta Mae's money to Snow at the Golden Ram in Las Vegas.
There, Gorman and Snow learned about what happened at Verta Mae's while Frank drew the latter's attention by winning big on double zero. Snow ran away after learning that it was Frank, but was caught and forced to tell him where Khieu Dap was . Later, Frank went to San Joaquin Prison and disguised himself as a prison guard and saw Khieu Dap. In the past, Frank once saw Khieu Dap's face when he was about to evacuate Vietnam. He was shot and left for dead by Gorman after he told him that Khieu Dap had paid for his ticket. In the present, Frank attacked Khieu Dap and demanded to know where Gorman was, although Khieu Dap only told him about how they smuggled drugs into the U.S. from Southeast Asia, using dead bodies, before Frank snapped his neck.
After leaving San Joaquin, the Punisher went to Big Nothing to confront Gorman before his former commanding officer shot at him with a rocket launcher. Before Gorman could execute him, the Punisher shot him the shoulder and then in the kneecap before he surrendered. However, the Punisher still executed him before he turned around, took the camp's "Big Nothing" banner and dropped it on his corpse.
