It's been eight days since the fall of Wakanda. Eight days since we came here with our tail between our legs. And every day since. It's only gotten worse. It's gotten so that every time I hear that mystical portal start to open. My heart sinks. I haven't cracked a joke in weeks. There's just nothing funny about the end of the world.

17 hours from now, Colossus is trying to force someone to submit.

In the present, in K'un-Lun, Spider-Man is doing his best to train Hope so she can control the Phoenix. He then spots another portal opening, as Wolverine, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Red Hulk and Captain American step through, and state that they lost Thor to Colossus and Magik.

Hope becomes frustrated that this conflict is escalating and that she's wasting her time training. Spidey assures her her time will come.

Meanwhile, Thor is thrown into a volcano in Russia. This newfound tyranny causes division amongst mutantkind, as Storm, Pixie, Gambit and Armor look on from a distance.

In Ethiopia, Cyclops finds Emma meditating in the Danakil Desert. She tells him that since receiving Namor's portion of the Phoenix, she feels compelled to shut off the minds of the Avengers. Cyclops reminds her that they aren't waging a war, just for the X-Men to be portrayed as the good guys and Avengers the bad guys. Emma then tells him that she has found Hope in K'un-Lun. Cyclops then takes off, leaving Emma uncertain about what she'll do next. Sometime later, Emma tracks down a man who had secretly killed a winged mutant in 1987 and renders him catatonic to the shock of his family.

Storm arrives in Wakanda to assist in rebuilding, but Black Panther coldly rebuffs her, revealing that as high priest, he's annulling their marriage. But Storm then reveals that she knows where the captive Avengers are.

The Avengers, along with Storm and Professor X, find that Magik had raised a portion of Limbo to the earthly plane, where the captives' minds are being feasted on by its denizens. Doctor Strange uses an invisibility spell on them but it doesn't shield them from detection by Magik and Colossus. As the Avengers free their comrades, Spider-Man decides to cover their escape. Despite it being futile, Spidey continues to resist, even when beaten to a bloodly pulp. Magik yells at her brother for his restraint. Spider-Man persuades them to fight each other by pointing out that the one who wins would receive more Phoenix power. The volcano then explodes with fiery Phoenix power. The Avengers return for Spidey and find that Magik and Colossus have knocked each other out and lost their Phoenix powers.

As they return to K'un-Lun, they find Cyclops waiting for them, demanding that Hope be returned.

Synopsis for "Avengers Vs. X-Men (Part Ten)"

Avengers vs. X-Men #10

Cyclops confronts Iron Fist and Hope, demanding that the latter return with him. Iron Fist instructs Hope to get to the Thunderer as he attempts to hold off Cyclops.

In Russia, after rescuing Spider-Man, Magik and Colossus from the volcano, Professor X realizes that Cyclops and Emma are now falling under the Phoenix's dark influence and he must ensure that mutantkind doesn't fall with them.

In Utopia, Emma uses her power to subjugate all X-Men and push out any dissenting thought. Magneto pleads with her not to do this but she brushes off his concerns. As she leaves, Magneto looks to his helmet that blocks out telepathy.

Back in K'un-Lun, Cyclops is practically wiping the floor with the Avengers. Then suddenly, Hope and the Thunderer come riding in on the dragon Shou-Lao, who blasts Cyclops with its fire. Unfortunately, the dragon is far too young to put up a proper fight and its riders are dislodged. Cyclops prepares to kill the dragon, only to be kicked by the Thunderer, who accuses him of trying to murder a wounded animal and hurt a little girl.

Cyclops then asks Hope why she would side with the Avengers over her own people. She retorts that he has become a monster. Cyclops explains that he's trying to save their species and perhaps that's what he'll need to become in order to do so. To her surprise, Hope unleashes a breath of dragon fire. She then runs away and finds the Scarlet Witch, Beast and Iron Man. Scarlet Witch attempts to use her chaos magic against Cyclops, but he proves more resilient against it than he was last time.

Hope then unleashes a combination of dragon energy, fire and chaos magic to banish Cyclops to the Moon. The Watcher observes this event and notes that Cyclops will need a greater power than his own in order to defeat Hope, so he goes to Utopia to get Emma's portion.

As Cap's group arrives, Iron Man states that he knows why Hope was able to defeat Cyclops.

In Utopia, Magneto mentally pleads with Xavier to return, warning him that Cyclops and Emma are losing control.

Synopsis for "On the Eve of Battle"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Wolverine & the X-Men #15

Logan and Hope take a walk in the lakeshore and talk about what happened on the Moon. Hope is ready to face the Phoenix but Logan is still unsure about involving a child in a fight so big. Looking at a statue dedicated to Jean, Hope asks Logan about her. Logan talks about how special she was to the X-Men, he even says that if she were alive, then none of this would be happening. Hope says that Jean may be gone, but she is here and she will finish this. Logan says that everyone will finish this together: X-Men and Avengers.

Beast, Broo, Iron Man, Iron Fist and Agent Brand run an analysis on the battle at K'un-Lun. As the assembled heroes discuss their next course of action against Cyclops and Emma, Broo shows them his idea in how to deal with the Phoenix. Impressed, the heroes reassess the situation. Meanwhile, Iceman and Kitty share a romantic moment.

The students try to continue their normal lives at school. As Professor Xavier and Rachel walk across the halls, they share a telepathic conversation about Cyclops' recent actions. Despite everything that's happened, Xavier believes Scott can still be safe. He refuses to lose another student to the Phoenix. Suddenly, Kid Omega intrudes in their conversation. Rachel gives him a week of detention, but Xavier thinks Quire wants that, in order to maintain his rebellious image. Instead, Xavier telepathically announces to the whole school that Quire is the newest candidate for student council president. Quire is angry, but Xavier believes that it will teach him responsibility.

Deep beneath the school, Toad takes Husk to a series of underground tunnels. There, Toad and Husk want to spend some time together.

Meanwhile, Gladiator is still recovering from his injuries. He tells his son that they are to depart Earth forever, to which Kubark disagrees. Gladiator says that the Phoenix is Earth's problem, not theirs. As his father goes to the ship, Kid Gladiator talks to Warbird about his desire to remain on Earth, but Warbird advises him to listen to his father. Saddened, Kid Gladiator goes to the ship.

As Gladiator enters the ship, he tells Warbird that she will not be coming with them. Warbird is confused, believing that she has offended the Emperor in some way, but Gladiator replies that she is not being punished. He simply does not see her as a Warbird, her heart longs for something else. As he departs, Gladiator wishes her luck on finding it.

Meanwhile, Iceman goes to Wolverine's office and quickly apologizes for taking Scott's side. Wolverine says that he chose Iceman to go with him because he knew that he would berate him whenever he did something wrong. Then, they share a drink.

Later, Wolverine, Kitty and Rachel inform Angel that he is no longer a student because he has proven to be smarter than most of his teachers, not to mention that he can handle himself on the field. He is officially the school's first graduate. The teachers offer Warren a position as Beast's graduate assistant, to which he eagerly accepts.

The time has come and the X-Men go off to the final battle.
