History
During his time as the Superior Spider-Man, Otto Octavius was looking for a lab assistant. Overhearing him talking to Anna Maria Marconi, Estrella Lopez entered herself in the running and was arranged to meet Spider-Man, who, after seeing her pass a test, accepted her services. Otto put her to work helping him realize his life-long goal of creating a miniature star under laboratory conditions.[1]
After weeks of failure, Estrella provided a solution that was a missing key to the problem, only to see Spider-Man immediately take credit for it himself. Unwilling to have her achievement taken away, she performed the experiment on her own, successfully achieving a reaction and creating a miniature star, the power of which she then absorbed. Spider-Man arrived on the scene and Lopez, feeling newly empowered, tried to kill him for attempting to steal her idea. Octavius fought her and succeeded in trapping her inside a frictionless dodecahedron from which she could not escape, which he ordered his minions to put away.[1]
A long time later, having regained his body but lost much of his memories, Octavius was searching for a solution to a problem he had found during his time as Superior Spider-Man. Otto cracked the dodecahedron containment open, releasing Estrella who had spent all that time inside, requiring no food or air, but also bereft of any sensory input. Driven by her all-consuming rage against the "Spider-Man" who inflicted that upon her, Estrella ignored Doctor Octopus and flew away in search of her target.[1]
Finding him in the company of his ward Spider-Boy, Supernova engaged Spider-Man, unaware that his body's current occupant, Peter Parker, had no memory of her whatsoever. Seeing how her anger was directed at Spider-Man only and realizing that Otto was the one behind it, Peter slipped out of his costume and back into his civilian clothes to escape her attention.[2] He was then approached by Anna Maria Marconi, who filled him in on the parts of Estrella's history he hadn't yet put together. Seeing the two people who offered her to work for Spider-Man to begin with, Supernova kidnapped Anna Maria and took her away, promising Peter she would kill her unless he could get Spider-Man to come to her.[3] Spider-Man and Doc Ock teamed up to re-imprison Estrella [4], but while Peter wanted to cure her, Otto wanted to use her as an energy source, as he saw it as his greatest scientific achievement.[5] Since the equipment used to fight Supernova was damaged, Spider-Man and Anne Maria stayed behind to prevent it from exploding and killing thousands of innocent people, so Otto ran away with Estrella.[5] When Estrella heard him speak, she realized that it was he who had imprisoned her and not Spider-Man, which Otto admitted.[5]
Otto later decided to use Estrella to amplify a signal that would put her mind into everyone in the world, which would likely kill her.[6] However, Otto changed his mind when he realized he didn't want Anna Maria to become him too.[7] Spider-Man damaged the containment pod allowing Estrella to break free.[7] Supernova was intent on killing Otto after using the neurolytic scanner to clear all of Manhattan from his mind he no longer remembered being Spider-Man and had no idea who Estrella was, so Spider-Man and Anna Maria convinced her not to attack him and Estrella left.[7]Attributes
Powers
- Solar Energy Form: After accidentally absorbing energy from a miniature star she created with Superior Spider-Man, Estrella Lopez transformed into a pure solar energy being with power almost equals to the sun, called herself Supernova. Her body temperature is also very high that it can melt anything it comes into direct contact with.[1]
- Heat Energy Blasts: Supernova can fire extremely powerful solar energy waves from both her hands or her entire body which capable of destroying and melting anything.[1]
- Flight[1]
- Self-Sustenance: In her energy form, Supernova does not require air, food or water to live and can survive in the vacuum of space.[1][8]
Weaknesses
Power Instability: In her current state she can't touch anything without melting it. She also doesn't have complete control over her own power yet.[3][9]
Claustrophobia: Supernova suffered from a fear of closed spaces due to being trapped in a containment pod by Doc Ock for several years. This caused deep trauma for her psyche, so she didn't like having to enter even a small space.[4]See Also
