History

When Roxxon mined ice from Europa to sell for a lot of money, S.H.I.E.L.D. environmental agent Rosalind Soloman convince the thunder god Thor to bring in an even larger chunk of ice from Jotunheim and give it away for free.[1]

Alternate Realities[]

31st Century (Earth-691)[]

In Earth-691, Europa was once the home of a colony of mutants that had fled Earth in the 20th century to escape eradication sometime before the War of the Worlds.[2]

Magneto led the mutants who were willing to leave Earth to escape from the Sentinels. On Europa, they lived in a small city hidden in the ocean beneath the moon's glacial surface where they built three starships to carry them to the stars. Before the third ship was completed, Apocalypse attacked the colony to enslave the mutants but Magneto fought him to give the others enough time to escape. Magneto and Apocalypse both died in the battle while the mutants who had fled the Europa colony in the two finished starships spent several generations travelling through space. Finally, with their fuel almost gone, they found a hellish world with numerous active volcanoes that they ironically named Haven. Logan, the only mutant who had survived the long voyage from Europa, helped establish the new colony but refused to lead the people. His descendants did not have this qualm and often ruled with an iron fist. Sometime in the 30th century, Wolverine's great-great-great-granddaughter, Rancor, became the ruler of Haven after killing her own father.[3]

After the War of Worlds, the Vision had left Earth, seeking to find the mutants and bring them back. Vision first travelled to Europa but found the colony had been long abandoned. Continuing his search, Vision ultimately ended up on the planet Klatuu where he interfaced with the still-functioning machines of the previous inhabitants and ultimately gave up his physical form to become Mainframe. He eventually found the mutants but no longer had a reason to join or contact them.[2]

The city on Europa remained deserted for almost a millennium until the four original Guardians of the Galaxy discovered it in 3007 AD while fleeing from Badoon forces. The foursome found the unfinished starship and, over the course of six months, made it space-worthy and christened it the U.S.S. Captain America.[4]

Ten years later, in 3017 AD, the Guardians encountered Mainframe who told them that the city on Europa had been the first base of the mutants and gave them the coordinates to Haven.[2]

Moira's Ninth Life (Moira 9)[]

In the Ninth Life of Moira X, Io was completely consumed by Nimbus, a machine intelligence created by Post-Human.[5]
