Synopsis for ""The Trial of Lockheed""

In a hospital, a group of Surgeons are gathered around their patient. From the observation gallery, Excalibur watch as Lockheed is operated on, still unconscious from the injuries inflicted upon him by Doctor Doom. One of the Doctors approaches them, saying that while the Surgeons have done all they can, Lockheed has to pull through on his own. Meanwhile, Lockheed finds himself having an out of body experience. He tries to talk to Excalibur, but they can’t see or hear him as he drifts through the ceiling and into a spaceship hanging in space. The ship is in the same plane as him, containing the souls of his species, who have Lockheed arrested and put on trial for abandoning his species, and his fiancé. He argues his case, recounting his history with Kitty Pryde, and the histories of all in Excalibur.

Back on Earth, as Alistaire Stuart and Dai Thomas watch the royal reaction to Lockheed’s injury on the news, Dai receives a phone call, which causes him to block all roads to the hospital. On the spaceship, as Lockheed continues his story, all his fellow Dragons have fallen asleep, including the pilots. As they are so far from their bodies, only Lockheed’s soul could return and survive. He flies from the court, and sets the autopilot on the ship. In return for saving them, his death sentence is commuted to exile from the flock. As he descends back to his body, he sees a helicopter landing on the roof, but returns to his body before he sees the occupants. Phoenix, meanwhile, senses the occupants of the helicopter are shielded from her. Excalibur dash to the roof, to find the X-men waiting for them.

Notes

All of the Dragons' dialogue is in rhyming prose.
