Synopsis
The episode opens in Phrygia, during the final days of the Trojan War. Odysseus orders a group of soldiers to storm the city gate with a battering ram, but this is actually just a distraction for the defending Trojan Army so that the Myrmidons can climb the wall and enter the city. Among this group are the legendary Achilles and his close friend Memnon. Unbeknown to Achilles however, Memnon is actually B'kai, a Wakandan War Dog who only joined the Greeks in their war because a Wakandan artifact that he has been ordered to retrieve is currently in Troy. The group makes it onto the wall, and through a spyglass B’Kai/Memnon spots the artifact, a pendant, in the Trojan Palace, around the neck of Helen. Before Achilles and his group can make progress though, they are spotted by the Amazons and forced to retreat, leading to another failure for the Achaean Army.
That night, B’kai secretly heals his wounds from the fight with Wakandan medicine, while Achilles spends his time moping by the campfire. Morale among the Greek soldiers is quite low after another failure, with some believing the war to be cursed. Achilles feels the same way, so B’kai does his best to cheer him up and remind him of the cause they are fighting for. Their talk is interrupted by some soldiers that don’t trust “Memnon” as he is an outsider. One soldier, Ferro, even accuses Memnon of being a Trojan spy; however, Achilles quickly puts Ferro in his place by reminding him how Memnon has been fighting for the Greeks for nine years now and saved many of them countless times. The following day, Achilles even gives Memnon an amulet he received from his mother as a token of their friendship.
Then Odysseus comes with one final strategy; the Trojan Horse. Achilles and B’kai are among the soldiers that hide in the horse as the plan is put into motion. The trick succeeds and the Trojans bring the horse into the city, allowing the Greeks to attack the city from within. During the ensuing battle, B’kai abandons his fellow soldiers and makes his way straight to the Royal Palace, where he confronts Helen and Paris. He takes back the artifact and, since this is the only thing he was after, he allows Helen and Paris to flee the city. Unfortunately, at that moment Achilles also makes his way to the palace and witnesses the whole thing. Achilles now believes Memnon was a Trojan spy all along and enraged by this betrayal attacks his former friend. B’kai tries to get Achilles to see reason, but Achilles is too blinded by anger and eventually B’kai has no other choice but to kill the man he had come to consider a friend. By Greek tradition, he puts coins on both of Achilles’ eyes before sneaking away, as the Achaean Army loots Troy.
Six months later, B’kai is back in Wakanda, but finds that after so many years in the outside world he feels like a stranger in his own country. He confides in Noni, who is now the director of the War Dogs, how he feels more alone here than out there. Noni assures B’kai that he is a hero to Wakanda now, but understands what he is going through. B’kai requests to be send out into the field again, where he feels he belongs. Noni agrees, but has one final question for B’kai; what is it that B’kai is truly searching for? The question remains unanswered.
