Synopsis for "When Mutants Clash!"
Continued from last issue....
The X-Men are prisoners of Magneto, and while Angel has been sent off to get the aid of the Avengers, Cyclops has been trying to break free of his restrains. Using his optic blast, he manages to break the shield that has been put over his visor and manages to blast off his shackles. Rushing off to find the other X-Men, he finds Jean locked in a cell but finds that she is in a trance of some kind and is of no use to her, so he begins searching for the other X-Men. Spotted by the Toad, Cyclops attempts to stop the evil mutant, however, he manages to flee the scene to warn Magneto, leaving Cyclops to rush and find Beast and Iceman.
As Angel arrives in New York, while recounting his encounter with the old World War II hero the Red Raven, Cyclops continues to search for his captive friends. Cyclops is spotted and approached by Quicksilver, who attempts to talk to Cyclops, however Cyclops attacks instead. Meanwhile, Toad is reporting back to Magneto about Cyclops' escape. Magneto blasts Toad with a magnetic jolt and is about to kill his useless minion when the Toad's pleas for mercy disgusts Magneto into deciding that the Toad is not worth killing in order to focus on other matters.
The battle between Quicksilver and Cyclops takes a brief pause and Pietro attempts to convince Scott to join the Brotherhood and see the error in defending the humans. When Cyclops refuses to give up Xavier's teachings, the two resume their fight when Quicksilver resumes the attack on Cyclops.
Witnessing the battle through his control monitor, Magneto bellows over Quicksilver's inability to destroy Cyclops. When Wanda enters the room and sees the battle happening she asks Magneto to intervene, a request that Magneto refuses. The battle quickly ends when Cyclops knocks out Quicksilver with his optic blast. Trying in vain to revive the mutant speedster so he might learn where his fellow X-Men are, he is interrupted by the arrival of the Avengers.

Synopsis for "The Thunder God and the Troll!"
Reunited with his long lost love Sif, Thor spends time with her as they compete in a friendly game of spearing. Their fun is interrupted when the couple is attacked by an army of Rock Trolls, who are seeking to capture the two as they are trespassing on Rock Troll ground. The Rock Trolls manage to capture Sif and carry her away but have less luck subduing Thor. Thor manages to fight off their best efforts to subdue him and sends them fleeing. The Thunder God follow not far behind hoping to save Sif from any danger. Following the Trolls down into their cavern home, he is confronted by the Troll's greatest warrior: Ulik.
While elsewhere in the caverns, Sif is brought before Geirrodur, the leader of the Rock Trolls. Geirrodur decides that Sif would make an ideal means of defeating Thor, and plots to use her to steal Thor's hammer. Aware of the Thunder God's double identity, he plots to steal the hammer when Thor next changes into his mortal guise of Donald Blake. In order to facilitate this, Geirrodur uses "Vapours of Quietude" on Sif, knocking her unconscious, and has his mend toss her down a secret tunnel that will send her to Earth.
Elsewhere, Thor and Ulik's battle rages on, and the two find that they are equally matched in battle. However, as the battle rages on Ulik becomes more and more angry and soon goes into a berserker rage, gaining the upper hand against Thor. Before Ulik can best Thor in combat he is suddenly teleported away. Thinking it was his father Odin who aided, Thor is corrected by the appearance of Geirrodur, who tells Thor that he has transported Ulik to Earth to keep Sif hostage and tells Thor that should he go after his true love the Rock Trolls will invade Asgard.
Not wishing to sacrifice Sif, Thor teleports to Earth to save Sif, just as Geirrodur had planned. With Thor gone, the Rock Trolls begin their invasion of Asgard, sending the sum of their attack forces against the Golden Realm. While on Earth, Thor appears vowing to stop Ulik and save his true love.

Synopsis for "The Monstrous Master Plan of the Mandarin!"
PART ONE: THE MONSTROUS PLAN OF THE MANDARIN
The Living Laser attempts to escape from prison but Iron Man (who, in his civilian identity as Tony Stark has been inspecting security tech that Stark supplied to the prison) stops him. But then, the Living Laser vanishes suddenly. Concerned that other past Avengers foes may be "escaping" in such a manner, Iron Man calls a meeting of all Avengers -- much to the surprise of his team mates since he is not an active member of the team at the time.
It is revealed that the Living Laser had been teleported away by the Mandarin. He has gathered together the Swordsman, Power Man, the Executioner and the Enchantress. They are instructed to aid his master plan by attacking a variety of locations all over the world. To ensure his lackeys stay in line, the Mandarin pretends to teleport the Sub-Mariner to his base as well. When Namor refuses to obey orders, the Mandarin summarily destroys him. It's all an illusion meant to frighten the villains into behaving, but it works; they all fall in line.
When Iron Man arrives at Avengers Mansion, he's attacked by Hercules who doesn't know him and mistakes him for a villain. Their brief skirmish is halted by Thor's arrival, who introduces the two heroes and assures them both that they are all on the same side. Nick Fury contacts the Avengers and relates how several of their past opponents are staging attacks around the world in what appears to be a concerted effort. The Avengers break up into teams to confront the villains.
PART TWO: TO PERISH BY THE SWORD
Iron Man, Goliath, and the Wasp deal with Power Man and the Swordsman. Iron Man prevents the Swordsman from crushing a city with a colossal sword.
PART THREE: STRUGGLE IN A STRANGE LAND
Hercules and the Scarlet Witch stop the Executioner and Enchantress.
PART FOUR: AND A MONSTER SHALL STALK THE LAND Thor and Hawkeye deal with Living Laser who is aided by Mandarin's giant robot Ultimo. But they defeat him as well.
PART FIVE: SHOWDOWN IN SPACE
Captain America and Quicksilver confront the Mandarin in his space station. Soon enough, they are joined by the rest of the Avengers. The Mandarin uses a hate ray on them, causing them to fight whoever they are closest to. The Wasp, however, is closer to the Mandarin. She attacks him and the hate ray is deactivated. The Mandarin tries again to defeat them with another ray, but it blows a hole in the wall and sucks him out into space. The Avengers plant a bomb and destroy the base after leaving.
