Fantastic Four Vol 1 59 001

Detailed Summary:
Following their encounter with the cosmic powered Doctor Doom, Reed Richards provides information to the US Chief of Staff, who orders a full mobilization of military forces following the grim news. Reed is about to give up, but Ben purposely agitates Reed with a fight in order to get him thinking of a solution. The ploy works when Reed stops the fight to go work in his lab. Meanwhile the Russian military sends fighter jets to attack Latveria before Doctor Doom can strike at them, but the jets are annihilated by Doom's fantastic new powers. Following his easy victory, Doom then pays a visit to the weakened Silver Surfer who is still a captive in his dungeon to gloat over stealing the Surfer's powers and his future conquest of the world.

As Reed works in his lab he struggles to find a solution when he is told by Sue and Ben that Wyatt is worried about Johnny. Reed contacts Wingfoot and learns that Johnny has been training with soldiers in order to prepare for another battle with Doctor Doom. Reed forbids Johnny from going on this mission, and Wyatt manages to convince Johnny to follow orders. As they drive back to the Baxter Building, Wyatt is relieved that Johnny is focused on something other than the Inhumans for once.

Meanwhile at the Great Refuge of the Inhumans, Black Bolt has come to the only conclusion there is in order to remove the Negative Zone barrier that blocks his people from the outside world. He silently orders all his people to go to the shelters deep below the city. Only Maximus refuses to go to shelter and even though he is completely mad wishes to stand by his brother's side. Black Bolt allows this and then suddenly screams. The force of the scream is powerful enough to shatter the Negative Zone barrier, but also decimates the Great Refuge as well.

While around the world Doctor Doom gives the people of Earth a demonstration of his power by plunging a European village into darkness, turning the Aegean Islands into a frozen wasteland, and mutating a gorilla in Africa into a powerful rampaging monster. After observing this, Reed Richards shows Ben a miniaturized prototype of the weapon he plans to use against Doctor Doom. Testing it out on Ben angers the Thing and he attacks Reed but is still too weak from his battle with Doctor Doom to put up much of a fight.

Back at the Hidden Land of the Inhumans, the people emerge from their shelters to find that they are free but their cities are in ruins. Black Bolt then decrees that while his people are rebuilding their home, the royal family shall venture out into the world. Soon Black Bolt, Crystal, Gorgon, Medusa, Karnak and Triton leave in a ship. Maximus is happy that they are gone and begins scheming on how to take over the throne once again, but when he tries to gain loyal followers none wish to work with the madman.

While Reed Richards is hard at work constructing the full-sized version of his weapon against their foe, Doctor Doom decides to finally use his power to take over the world.

Synopsis for ""The Peril and the Power!""

Reprint of the 1st story from
Fantastic Four #60
Brief Summary:

The Fantastic Four continue their desperate struggle against the newly powered-up Doctor Doom. However, no matter how hard they fight, they cannot stop him. They are able to delay him long enough for Reed's Anti-Cosmic Flying Wing to be deployed. It attacks Doom and leads him up into the Earth's orbit and directly into Galactus' invisible barrier. He disappears in a flash of light and Silver Surfer's surfboard returns to its rightful owner.

Fantastic Four Vol 1 60 001

Detailed Summary:
The Fantastic Four witnesses Doctor Doom continuing to put on a display of his new power. The Thing becomes impatient waiting for Reed's plan to come to fruition and tries to leave to fight Doom alone but is stopped by Mister Fantastic. Wyatt Wingfoot enters the Baxter Building to warn them that Johnny has rushed off to fight Doom alone.

The Torch catches up with Doctor Doom and attacks him with full force. Doom is able to deflect Johnny's flame attacks thanks to the Power Cosmic that he now controls, ultimately blasting the youthful hero away in a whirlwind.

In Latveria, the weakened Silver Surfer struggles to break free from his cell. He is found by one of Doctor Doom's guards, who starts beating the alien for his own amusement.

The Black Panther has provided the Fantastic Four a new ship to follow Johnny and Doctor Doom. When the FF find Doom, the dictator makes short work of their ship by crushing it with a tree. Reed, Sue and Ben escape the ship, but Doom is coming to attack. He focuses on the Thing, to get revenge for crushing his hands during a previous encounter. [1] Ben is no match for the new cosmically powered Doctor Doom, but he still continues to fight.

The Watcher continues to struggle watching the battle from his viewing post on the moon. Tempted to interfere with the battle, the Watcher decides to visit a far-off sector of space where a new race is evolving in order to resist the temptation.

Reed and Sue climb to safety and find Johnny on the battlefield. They catch up with Ben and Doom. The Fantastic Four begin attacking Doom in a concerted effort, but whatever they do, Doom has a countermeasure to stop them.

In Europe, the Inhumans have landed their ship and begin trying to build a new home; however, they are spotted by some locals. Highly prejudiced of these new strangers, some xenophobic locals try to attack the Inhumans but are sent fleeing when Gorgon stomps his hooves.

Finally, the Fantastic Four have distracted Doom long enough for the construction of Reed's Anti-Cosmic Flying Wing to be completed and deployed. It begins to weaken Doom as it flies by, and, when it takes off, Doom goes after it in a vain attempt to destroy it. This is all part of Reed's plan as the flying wing takes Doom high into the atmosphere, where he impacts the barrier placed around the Earth by Galactus. Because he has the Surfer's powers, this barrier seemingly destroys Doom upon impact, ending his threat. As Reed explains what happened, they witness as the Silver Surfer's surfboard—no longer carrying Doom—flies toward Doctor Doom's castle and its rightful owner.
