Fantastic Four #130

The Frightful Four have just defeated the Thing and Medusa with the help of their newest member Thundra. As the male members gloat over their victory, Thundra begins to feel a twinge of pity for the Thing. This irks the Sandman, who recalls this sort of sympathy from Medusa before she betrayed their team and tries to toss the Thing high in the air so he suffers a fatal fall. Not wishing to see her foe killed, Thundra leaps in and saves Ben's life, then violently jostles the Sandman, warning him from using lethal force against a "defenseless man" again. The Wizard takes control of the situation, reminding them that they need to focus their attention on the Baxter Building and the downfall of the rest of the Fantastic Four.

Meanwhile, in the Great Refuge of the Inhumans, Johnny Storm is brought before Black Bolt and the rest of the Inhuman royal family. Johnny is angered that he was attacked outside of the city for trying to see his girlfriend Crystal. Triton and the others try to explain that there is a good reason why they wanted to detain him before he saw her, but Johnny is too angry to listen. When they point out that Crystal is at the top of a nearby tower, the Torch flames on and flies past them intent on seeing the girl he loves without further interruption. Gorgon, Karnak and Triton try to follow after him on sky-cycles, but they lose him when they get to the tower. Thinking he must have slipped by somehow, they rush inside where they find no trace of Johnny Storm anywhere. Suddenly, Gorgon realizes what happened when his cloven feet detect an increase in temperature in the floor. As they predicted, Johnny is burning his way up to the top of the tower between the walls to evade capture. When he finally gets to the top, an exhausted Human Torch begs to know why Crystal is trying to hide from him. Unable to keep the truth from Johnny any longer, Crystal decides to show him what is going on and steps aside. What Johnny sees behind Crystal shocks him.

Back at the Baxter Building, Reed Richards is busy working on an experiment but his mind wanders. He keeps thinking of the constant fights he has been having with his wife, Johnny's sudden departure, and Ben's own depressed state. Losing his cool, Reed angrily tosses a flask full of highly unstable radioactive particles, realizing too late the hazard he is creating. Luckily he manages to catch the flask before it can hit the ground and explode. Hearing the elevator approaching their headquarters, Reed decides to see who it is, hoping it is one of his teammates. But when the doors open he finds it apparently empty, when Reed enters the elevator car he is suddenly ambushed by the Sandman who was hiding on the ceiling in his sand form. The two struggle with one another, but ultimately the Sandman wins by smothering Reed into unconsciousness. The rest of the Frightful Four soon enter with their other prisoners, and the Trapster uses his paste gun to bind Reed along with Medusa and Ben.

With their foes accounted for, the Wizard leads his team into Reed's lab for what he believes is the ultimate victory. While they are taking a moment to marvel at the technology, suddenly one of Reed's weapons goes off. Thinking that the Sandman had accidentally set it off, the Trapster and his ally almost come to blows over accusations. The Wizard stops them and points out women's footprints in the Trapster's paste. Realizing that they are not alone, the Sandman blankets the room with sand particles, revealing Sue Richards and her son Franklin who were hiding invisibly in the room.

Having to drop her cloak, Sue asks the Frightful Four to not harm her child while they battle. The Wizard agrees to honor this request and his team attack. They are held at bay thanks to an invisible force field projected by Sue. She finally stands down when the Wizard decides to rescind his promise not to hurt Franklin, despite the protests by Thundra. As soon as she drops her force field, Sue is gummed up by the Trapster as well. The Wizard then gloats about how no one can stop him, unaware that Ben is slowly starting to wake up. The Thing feels some force moving through his mind and when he wakes he spots his godson looking at him. For the briefest moment, Franklin's eyes begin to glow. Seeing that the Thing is waking up, the Sandman raises the alarm. The Wizard decides to respond by trying to blast his enemy with a Cyclo-Ray, but unwilling to let her partners kill, Thundra turns on the Frightful Four. While she is busy fighting the men, Ben manages to break free from his bonds. He then frees Reed, Sue, and Medusa.

The four then turn their attention to members of the Frightful Four: Medusa defeating the Trapster, Sue against the Sandman, and Reed Against the Wizard. During the course of the battle, Reed tells Sue to get Franklin and get to safety. Refusing to abandon the others in battle, Sue informs her husband that Franklin is safe behind an invisible force field she has erected around the child. As the Thing and Thundra fight it out, the Amazon realizes that the fight is a losing one and knocks Ben aside. She then breaks a hole in the wall and the Frightful Four quickly flee in the Wizard's anti-gravity ship.

In the aftermath of the battle, Reed and Sue get into an argument over her place on the team. Fed up of being seen merely as the mother of their child, Sue decides that she is going to leave Reed. As the exchanges gets heated, Reed tells her if she wants to go, then go. Sue decides to take him at his word and walks out, although the couple instantly regrets each other's harsh words, but are both too stubborn to admit it. Coming to grips with the entire display, Reed tells Ben and Medusa that they are going to go and get Johnny back and that no matter what, the Fantastic Four will endure.

Synopsis for "Revolt in Paradise!"

Fantastic Four #131

The Human Torch has come to Attilan seeking out his girlfriend Crystal after months apart. Having fought his way into the tower where she had been hidden away, Johnny is shocked to see that she is caring for the mutant Avenger known as Quicksilver. When Pietro refers to Crystal as his "darling", Johnny realizes to his horror that Crystal has been romantically engaged with Quicksilver for some time and accuses her of being unfaithful. Both the Torch and Pietro begin a heated exchange while Crystal struggles to keep the peace and explain herself, apologizing profusely for unintentionally hurting Johnny with this deception. Suddenly: Gorgon, Triton, and Karnak burst into the room ready to detain Johnny for storming in on Crystal without Black Bolt's permission, but Crystal sends them away telling them that she will deal with the situation herself. With Crystal's cousins out of the room, Johnny demands some answers and Crystal agrees to explain what happened.

She tells Johnny that after the Fantastic Four saved her from Diablo, [1] she and Lockjaw continued on their way back home to Attilan. However, because Lockjaw's teleportation powers are sometimes unreliable, they ended up appearing in China in front of some soldiers, but they quickly teleported away before the soldiers could shoot them. They next appeared somewhere in Eastern Europe where they appeared before a praying man before vanishing once again. They next appeared in a Sentinel base located in Australia where they witnessed Quicksilver getting seriously injured saving the life of Larry Trask from one of the mutant-hunting robots. With Pietro needing immediate medical attention, she brought him back with her to Attilan. After being treated by their best doctors, Crystal felt responsible for this stranger and remained at his bedside. Medusa was able to see what Crystal was unable to see initially: that the pair were falling in love with one another. As Pietro healed, he refused to return to his fellow Avengers until his powers returned to their peak. While testing out his speed abilities, Pietro stumbled and she caught them. Caught in the moment the pair kissed for the first time.

With the tale over, Johnny dismisses her and Pietro's tryst as nothing more than a fling and demands that she chooses between himself and Quicksilver. Crystal in turn tearfully tells Johnny that she cannot do so. Fed up with the situation, Johnny decides to make up her mind for her by attacking the mutant speedster. After a brief scuffle, Crystal uses her elemental powers to shake up the room to make them stop fighting. Unable to deal with the fighting, Crystal breaks down in tears again, when suddenly the entire city of Attilan begins to shake -- and this time it is not Crystal's doing. The trio escapes the tower, with Johnny carrying Crystal down. They rendezvous with Black Bolt and the rest of the royal family. Bolt brings Johnny, Crystal, and Pietro to the site of the disturbance where the ground has caved into the underground dwelling of the Alpha Primitives, the Inhumans' slave workers.

Suspecting that Maximus might be responsible, they go to his cell to find that he hasn't visibly done anything to cause the day's disturbance, but mocks them for being incapable of stopping what is to come. Karnak tells Johnny how Maximus recently came out of a stupor after Black Bolt regained the Inhuman throne. As mad as ever but still very inventive, the Inhumans allowed him to build devices. He soon created what appeared to be a seemingly innocuous perpetual motion machine. But when Maximus insulted Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans ordered Maximus put in a smaller cell while he had the greatest minds look over his mad brother's invention for any sinister intent. Finding none, Black Bolt sent Medusa out to New York to get the assistance of Mister Fantastic to look over the device.

Meanwhile, at the Baxter Building, Reed is depressed over the departure of his wife, but Ben and Medusa try to pull him out of his funk. Unable to do so, Ben reminds Reed that they have to go to the Great Refuge and recover Johnny if they have any chance to salvage the team and they soon head toward the Himalayan Mountains in the Fantasti-Car.

Back in Attilan, Crystal asks for more time to make up her mind, and Johnny angrily tells her that she had plenty of time to make up her mind about their relationship. Suddenly, an Alpha Primitive bumps into Johnny. When the Torch tells it to watch where it is going, the Alphas attacks him. When their minder orders the attacking Alpha to go for discipline, he is suddenly attacked by two Alphas. When Johnny ensnares the two delinquent Alpha Primitives in a net made of flame it starts off a full on revolt among the rest of the Primitives. The Inhumans, Johnny, and Pietro then force the Alpha Primitives back into the cavern in which they live. Black Bolt then unleashes his voice trapping them inside. In the aftermath of the battle, Johnny notices that Crystal is missing. Questioning the Inhumans they learn that some of the Alphas absconded with her into the tunnel before it was sealed.

Seeking to rescue the woman he loves, Johnny commands Lockjaw to teleport him into the caverns below the city. As they teleport away, Quicksilver races into the teleportational field and is taken along as well. As the rest of the royal family waits for something to do, Black Bolt turns and walks away from the situation. Meanwhile, in the tunnels below the city, Johnny and Pietro get to arguing over the love triangle between them and Crystal. Their bickering is halted when a massive creature calling itself Omega appears with Crystal as its prisoner. Omega tells the two heroes that if they wish to see Crystal unharmed, they will join him in battling the Inhumans.

Defenders #13

Nighthawk drops in on the Defenders, and after a brief battle he informs them of the events that brought him to Dr. Strange's Sanctum: He and the rest of the Squadron Sinister were restored and gathered by the mysterious alien being known as Nebulon who was seeking super-powered beings to "sell" the Earth to him. The Squadron then agreed to build a device that would melt the Earth's polar ice-caps and flood the planet as part of the conditions of sale. Finding such a plan too horrible, Nighthawk refused and was banished from the meeting however Nebulon insured that he could not warn the Avengers, making Nighthawk invisible to Earth's mightiest heroes. Overhearing them speaking of the Defenders, Nighthawk would instead seek their aid.

Needing extra muscle on this mission, Dr. Strange teleports Namor to their side, and the group battles to stop the Squadron Sinister from activating the device, however in the course of the battle they are trapped in a mystic bubble by Nebulon.
