Synopsis for "The Heir of Frankenstein!"
The Silver Surfer rescues Ludwig von Frankenstein from an angry village mob. Frankenstein tricks the Surfer into entering his experimental machine so that he can clone him and his powers. He creates a Frankenstein Surfer that attacks the Silver Surfer and the nearby villagers. The Surfer confronts his dangerous double. He leads him to space and reabsorbs his powers back into himself, causing the clone to vanish.
Detailed Summary:
Ludwig von Frankenstein, the modern descendant of Victor von Frankenstein, and his hunchbacked assistant Borgo attempt to create life using modern scientific technology. But the local villagers have had their fill of the Frankenstein legacy and storm the castle. Frankenstein decides to activate his latest project, Experiment X. But in order to do so, he needs a powerful living host – one that is strong enough to survive the process.
The Silver Surfer, flying through the Alps, sees the villagers storming the castle and believing them to be aggressors, repels them with his cosmic blasts. Count Frankenstein invites him into his castle and pretends to befriend him. The Silver Surfer is reluctant to trust him at first, but agrees to help him. Frankenstein tricks him into becoming the host for Experiment X. Trapping the Surfer and strapping him to a table, he begins to siphon the power cosmic from him and redirect it into a lifeless clay model. Imbued with the power of the Silver Surfer, the creation comes to life, assumes the Surfer's form, and attacks him. Frankenstein sends the false Surfer into the village to avenge himself against them.
Frankenstein notices that the Silver Surfer is still alive and decides to finish him off with another of his weapons. To his surprise, the Surfer stands unharmed and demands to know what are his plans for the clone. Borgo reveals to him that Frankenstein plans to use the duplicate to bring fear to the world. The Silver Surfer departs to stop his evil doppelganger.
The two Surfers confront each other. Their fight rages throughout the village and eventually the Silver Surfer carries the battle out into Earth’s atmosphere to avoid harming others. Both combatants are evenly matched, but the Surfer's experience gives him an advantage.
Back in the Alps, the diminutive Borgo decides that he has taken Count Frankenstein's abuse long enough. He tackles Frankenstein, as he is firing down on the villagers, and both of them topple out of the castle window where they fall to their deaths.
Back in the sky, the duplicate decides to bring the battle back to the city. The Silver Surfer, looking to end the violence once and for all, grabs a hold of the false Surfer and begins to drain him of his cosmic energy. Before long, there is nothing left of clone and he disappears into thin air. The Silver Surfer is once again whole.Notes
