History
Black Cat's history is presumably the same to her Earth-616 counterpart's up to the point when Spider-Man first bonded with the Venom symbiote.
Cat was once in a relationship with Spider-Man, but they had grown distant over time due to Spider-Man repeatedly messing up. The two later met, and Spider-Man told her of an earlier encounter he had with Hobgoblin where he pummeled him and told him to send a message to other villains to not cross him. Cat approved of Spider-Man's darker attitude and stated that putting some fear into his enemies might make them less likely to reappear. Spider-Man noted that this was something he normally didn't do before but that what he usually did wasn't working. He also stated that he was worried about his suit earlier malfunctioning. Black Cat reminded him he was going to have "some genius" check the suit out, and Spider-Man decided to finally see him.[1]
Later, Cat met with Peter's other girlfriend Mary Jane Watson in Peter's apartment to discuss the situation with Peter and got into an argument that was interrupted when Peter was brought in by J. Jonah Jameson. Peter was no longer bonded with the black suit after a battle with the Sinister Six. However, when Peter killed the Kingpin, he ensured the world learned that Peter was Spider-Man. Consequently, the NYPD surrounded Peter's apartment to arrest him for his crimes.[2]
Jameson thought he could talk with the police, but Cat dismissed the idea as Spider-Man was a wanted murderer. Spider-Man decided that they needed to flee. Everyone managed to make it to the roof before the police arrived, and Spider-Man told Cat to take Jameson home while he dealt with the symbiote.[3]
