Felicia Hardy was dating Spider-Man, and continuously pushed him to go public with his identity. He resisted, however, for fear of his Aunt May being targeted. In an effort to prove him wrong, she stole his web shooters and framed Flash Thompson as Spider-Man.
When Spider-Man found out, he had the opposite reaction than she expected. They set off separately to track down Flash, Spider-Man to protect him from harm, and Black Cat to prove he was safe.
J. Jonah Jameson contacted Scorpion to go after Flash, confirming Black Cat's fears. She was captured by Scorpion and tied up alongside Flash under a vat of acid. Using the chemicals to burn through her bonds, she saved Flash and rushed to help Spider-Man fight Scorpion.
She arrived too late, only to find that he had defeated Scorpion and struck a deal with Jameson to reveal his secret identity, not knowing that Black Cat and Flash were already safe.
