Ages ago, Fenris was bound with the enchanted chain Gleipnir. This effort cost Tyr his hand, although he considered it a worthy cost to be paid.

After Ragnarok, Fenris Wolf ended up roaming the woods of Midgardia. After Thor heard from Mimir about an upcoming opportunity to prove himself worthy of Mjolnir again, he decided to prove himself by besting Fenris. Thor fought the beast and defeated him, but even with this noble deed done he still felt himself unworthy of Mjolnir.
Afterwards, Thor delivered Fenris to Helheim where Tyr hoped to tame the beast and turn it against invading demons, to no avail. Remembering history, he asked Scarlet Witch to enchant a new magical chain, which was used to bound Fenris once more.[1]
