History
Dr. Archibald Stancheck was a scientist, who was part of the team working on Count Nefaria's Project N. During his employment he left the project temporarily due to lack of payment, but he returned later when Count Nefaria resolved his financial troubles and was able the pay Stancheck's outstanding salary.[2]
As the scientists completed their work on Project N, Count Nefaria concluded that he couldn't let them live, in case they would bring their expertise elsewhere and replicate the results of the project, so he wrecked the lab, killing everyone except for Kenneth Sturdy.[3]Notes
- Dr. Stancheck, along with Dr. Rachelson and Professor Sturdy, was created as part of Project N’s staff by Jim Shooter and John Byrne and fully seen and named in Avengers #164. Their presence during the events of X-Men #94 was revealed in the Official Index to the Marvel Universe: Uncanny X-Men, implying they were the same people as a trio of scientists shown mutating the original Ani-Men in a flashback.
- This group of scientists, it should be noted, was not named and were vaguely depicted, and no reference to this procedure nor involvement by Rachelson, Stancheck, and Sturdy was mentioned in the pages of Avengers #164. That they are the same people is thus a retcon imposed by an editorial decision entirely based on a pair of super-power bestowing projects funded by Count Nefaria.
